We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team and help design and develop complex electromechanical instrument systems. This role involves designing systems with mechanisms such as linear actuators, rotational devices, hatches, lids, motion control, and electric motors. The candidate will lead the design and development of new instrument hardware and mechatronics systems, utilizing Solidworks 3D CAD for initial designs.
Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of new instrument hardware and mechatronics systems.
Use Solidworks 3D CAD for designing complex mechanical systems.
Design precision mechanisms, motion control systems, and complex assemblies with machined, molded, and sheet-metal components.
Define goals and objectives for hardware development and support existing instrumentation.
Perform mechanical analyses such as thermal, stress, and fluid flow using tools like COMSOL or similar.
Lead mechanical design, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of new instrument designs.
Guide all phases of product development, including feasibility, requirements, planning, verification, validation, and manufacturing transfer, in compliance with ISO and FDA cGMP standards.
Oversee the planning, design, build, and testing of manufacturing test fixtures.
Essential Skills
Experience designing complex mechanical/electromechanical systems from scratch.
Proven track record of taking products from design to delivery.
Experience with multi-system products (mechanical, electrical, software, etc.).
Proficiency in 3D CAD software, preferably Solidworks, with willingness to learn if using other packages.
Design experience with mechanisms, mechatronics, actuators, gears, motors, and control systems.
Background in electromechanical hardware used in commercial or laboratory environments, especially at larger scales.
Experience bringing products to market.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Master’s preferred.
10-20 years of relevant experience.
Experience with high-reliability products in sectors like medical, aerospace, automotive, or defense.
