Overview
Sr. Electrical Engineer (MEP) at Plan B Climatech | Monmouth County, NJ. Responsible for leading the design, documentation, and oversight of electrical systems for building projects, ensuring compliance with NJ and national codes, collaborating with architectural, structural and mechanical teams, mentoring junior staff, and managing project deliverables (schedule, cost, quality). Must be capable of both technical design and coordination with contractors, clients, and authorities having jurisdiction. Key Responsibilities
Lead and/or supervise the electrical discipline on multiple building design projects: from conceptual / schematic design through construction documentation, bidding, and construction administration. Perform detailed electrical design: power distribution, lighting layouts, emergency/standby power, fire alarm systems, low voltage systems (data, communications, security), transformers, panels, switchgear, ATS, UPS etc. Ensure compliance with relevant codes: NJ Building Code, NEC, NJ Electrical Code, NFPA, energy codes, local utility requirements, LEED (or equivalent) where applicable. Prepare technical specifications, basis of design reports, equipment selection, material lists. Oversee response to contractor RFIs, review shop drawings, change orders, provide site visits / inspections during construction phase. Coordinate with other disciplines (architects, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, structural) to ensure integrated building systems. Mentor junior/mid-level engineers, provide technical review of their work. Interface with clients, authorities having jurisdiction, utilities (e.g. PSEG), and other external stakeholders. Monitor project schedule, budget, and quality; provide input for cost estimates and value engineering. Stay current with emerging technologies, sustainable / energy efficient design practices. Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; Master’s preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in New Jersey or New York State strongly preferred (or ability to obtain). Experience: typically 5-10+ years in MEP consulting or in house design on buildings in NJ or similar jurisdictions. Demonstrated technical expertise in electrical systems design: power distribution, lighting, emergency systems, etc. Proficient with design tools: AutoCAD, Revit / BIM, maybe ETAP or similar for power studies, plus standard office tools. Strong knowledge of NJ code requirements (Building, Energy, Electrical, Fire Alarm etc.), NEC, NFPA, utility interface. Excellent communication (verbal & written), able to present to clients, contractors, building authorities. Strong organizational and time management skills: able to juggle multiple projects, meet deadlines. Leadership / mentoring experience: supervising others, performing reviews, delegating. Attention to detail in design, documentation, and coordination. Working Conditions
Office environment with frequent site visits. Some travel within NJ for site inspections, meetings. Some overtime may be required for project deadlines or responding to RFIs / construction issues. Hybrid working options might be possible depending on firm policy. Compensation & Benefits
