Arcadis is seeking a
Principal Water / Wastewater Project Manager
with a minimum of 10 years of experience to join our Water Business Line in Pittsburgh, PA. This role will be a hands-on doer/seller to lead and direct the development of water, wastewater and stormwater projects as a client-facing project manager. This is an opportunity for a self-motivated engineer to join our local team with support from one of the best-qualified consulting firms in the country. The Principal Water/Wastewater Project Manager will utilize their expertise and technical knowledge of water/wastewater evaluations, design & construction to serve as a Project Manager and Client Manager on local projects. This is a hands-on role with an expectation of leading projects, managing staff, and participating in business development activities.
Role accountabilities Leading and directing the development of water, wastewater, and stormwater projects as a client-facing project manager, leveraging experience in water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, stormwater management, pump/lift stations, and water/wastewater treatment facilities, including investigations, studies, analyses, designs, and construction administration services.
Possible embedding in a local client’s office as needed.
Managing the planning, design, and construction administration of projects to ensure compliance with contracts, drawings, specifications, codes, statutes, rules, and regulations, as well as Arcadis quality and safety practices.
Communicating with clients, establishing goals and objectives for project teams, and coordinating resources to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to client expectations.
Providing technical expertise on multi-disciplined projects as a design leader, QA/QC reviewer, or technical advisor.
Supervising and mentoring junior engineers and technical staff.
Working directly with clients to determine needs, deliver solutions, and grow client relationships with target clients.
Leading teams in marketing and proposal phases, including preparation of winning proposals, presentations, and development of scopes of work and budgets for water, wastewater, and stormwater projects.
Required qualifications Minimum 10 years of water/wastewater and stormwater experience.
Project management experience with at least 10 years of managing mid to large-sized, multi-disciplined municipal water, wastewater, or stormwater projects with responsibilities described above.
Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field.
Professional Engineer (PE) License in PA.
Key skills & attributes Team leadership including managing project delivery, prioritizing tasks, and mentoring.
Experience in preparing construction documents, including drawings, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
Client management skills, including identifying opportunities, developing proposals, and building client relationships.
Strong business acumen and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Active involvement in local professional associations, industry activities, and conferences.
Preferred qualifications Master’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field.
Technical expertise in water/wastewater projects.
Experience with projects involving ALCOSAN or the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority.
Knowledge of local western Pennsylvania municipalities.
Proven ability to manage client accounts, support new client development, and lead project pursuits in a collaborative manner.
PE licensure in neighboring states (e.g., Ohio, New York).
