Position Summary The Chief Building Engineer is responsible for ensuring building systems and equipment are running at optimal levels, and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and repair of all building systems to ensure a safe, efficient, and reliable facility. Additionally, the Chief Building Engineer will assist in securing required permits, manage hazardous materials, manage vendor relationships, maintain facility emergency devices, operate industrial

equipment/machinery

and ensures compliance with regulatory standards while maintaining exceptional service for tenants, employees, and visitors. Core Responsibilities Manage and oversee all building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, life safety, and energy management systems. Perform hands-on maintenance and repair work when needed. Maintain all utilities systems for electricity, water, steam, gas, oil, compressed air, communications and data networks. Assist with securing all required permits and

coordination/liaison

with local authorities to ensure compliance with applicable codes, OSHA and building regulations. Coordinate vendor contracts and oversee contractor performance for building operations and capital projects. Monitor utility usage and implement strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Respond to tenant service requests and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner. Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and managing expenses for building operations. Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and compliance activities. Support emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts. Able and willing to work off hours during emergency situations. Strong verbal and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with all levels of employees, external contractors and regulatory authorities. Skilled in using machine tools, hand power tools, voltmeter, ampmeter, micrometer, calipers, tachometer, handtruck, oscilloscope and welding equipment Demonstrated ability working with budgets and identify cost-savings Demonstrated ability to read and understand manuals and schematics Ability to apply mechanical, electrical and electronic knowledge to a wide variety of equipment. Availability for on-call, after-hours, and emergency response as needed. Education and Experience High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification . 7+ years of progressive experience in commercial building operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or chief role. Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and energy management systems; HVAC or Boiler license is desirable. Universal EPA certification; additional technical certifications (e.g., CFC, boiler, electrical) .
