A Day in the Life of a Project Engineer If you are on the civil design track, you'll be part of an interdisciplinary team to deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts from roadway reconstructions and streetscapes in highly urban settings to signature trail projects in suburban and rural areas that highlight and enhance the natural environment. You use programs such as AutoCAD and/or MicroStation in order to fulfill production work on your projects. If you're on the transportation design track, you'll assist in the creation of signing and pavement marking plans, maintenance of traffic, and traffic signal plans for roadway projects and streetscapes in urban settings. You will use programs such as Synchro, Highway Capacity Software, MicroStation, and AutoCAD to fulfill production work on your projects. Qualifications of a Project Engineer
Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil engineering Professional Engineering license preferred 5+ years of experience A growing knowledge base in civil engineering (transportation focus) Gaining understanding of basic geometric design principles of roadways and industry roadway design standards Proficiency in one or more of the following: MicroStation (including InRoads and/or OpenRoads), AutoCAD (including Civil 3D) Experience coordinating utility, right-of-way, street lighting, traffic signals, and landscape and hardscape layout Experience developing construction documents and cost estimates Interest in multimodal and active transportation design You'll be great here if:
