STR
Overview
STR’s Sensors Division is at the forefront of developing advanced signal processing algorithms and prototyping systems for next-generation radar and electronic warfare technologies. Mechanical engineering design, development, and integration support is sought for advanced and operational prototype systems. STR collaborates with research engineers, academic researchers, and industry partners to develop practical solutions to RF sensing and counter-sensing challenges for national security-focused clients. If you are seeking an opportunity to apply deep technical knowledge and creativity to make a lasting impact in national security, we invite you to join us. The Role
The Role:
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work with a team to design, build, integrate, and test sensing and counter sensing systems for radar, electronic warfare, sonar, and other applications. Responsibilities
Design integrated systems that meet specific requirements and constraints, understanding interactions between components to ensure functionality, efficiency, and reliability in mechanical systems Conduct performance trade studies and analyses of proposed hardware architectures; work on systems that are predominantly field-deployable prototypes with the objective of transitioning to low-volume product systems Review system effectiveness and identify opportunities to mature subsystems and system capabilities Document system design and performance for customer review and present results to customers Lead and work with small, multi-disciplinary teams to architect, implement, and test RF hardware systems enabling novel sensing, electronic warfare, and signal processing systems Qualifications
Ability to obtain a security clearance, for which U.S. citizenship is required by U.S. Government BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline 3–5+ years of relevant experience depending on degree Specific skillsets include:
Strong mathematical, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills Experience creating prototypes to test and validate designs before full-scale production Proficient in AutoCAD and SolidWorks Familiarity with material properties to support engineering solutions Knowledgeable in FEA techniques to simulate physical phenomena Project planning, organization, and documentation skills Ability to identify issues and develop innovative mechanical solutions Ability to convey complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences Strong collaborative work within multidisciplinary teams to quantify goals, performance objectives, metrics, dependencies, and risks Understanding of industry regulations and standards for safety and environmental compliance
Even Better
Active Secret or TS/SCI security clearance Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline Experience translating mission needs into end-to-end analytical solutions and interacting with decision-makers and customers Experience with:
Designing for manufacturability, producibility, and cost constraints Applying innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to challenging engineering problems Creating and presenting briefings to customers and senior management
