The Hardware Engineering organization is dedicated to consistently providing high quality product designs in support of multiple product areas. The Design Data and Product Integrity Engineering (DDPIE) organization provides engineering support services for all programs at the Rolling Meadows campus including CCA Design Layout Technology, Configuration Management, Data Management, Drafting, Standards and Components, Product Follow, and Product Integrity Engineering. We are seeking an experienced Principal Design Engineer to join its Design Layout Technology team.
Responsibilities
Plan, lay out, draw and revise parts, assemblies and fabrication engineering drawings from basic layouts, establishing references and standard data for PWB design artifacts.
Utilize computer-aided design tools such as Cadence Allegro and complete details of major layout drawings in accordance with standard engineering drafting practices, military specifications, and industry standards.
Layout PWBs/PCBs, flex circuits, interconnect routing, and drawing generation.
Calculate layer stack-up based on industry standards, supplier capabilities, and engineering requirements.
Create and document electronic data file outputs for fabrication and manufacturing.
Interface with electrical and mechanical engineers to work through component placement and routing for rigid, flex, and rigid-flex assemblies.
Understand technical theories of electrical and mechanical behavior of PWBs/PCBs to influence layout decisions (e.g., impedance matching, differential pairs, strains and stresses, orientation of components).
Incorporate PWB/PCB change notices and check designs and drawings for manufacturability.
Coordinate and lead design reviews with engineering, quality and manufacturing personnel.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
for Sr. Principal Design Engineer:
Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 8 years of directly related professional experience, or a Master's degree in STEM with 6 years of directly related experience, or 1-2 years of related experience in lieu of degree.
Drafting and design experience in PCB design for fabrication and PWB layer stack up for digital, RF, mixed signal, and power supply CCAs.
Experience with Cadence Allegro or similar CAD tool.
Knowledge of industry specifications and design for manufacturing (DFM) rules for CCA and PWB design, fabrication and manufacturing.
Ability to read drawings and schematic diagrams.
U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
for Sr. Principal Design Engineer:
Advanced degree in a STEM field.
Experience in PCB fabrication, testing, and quality.
Good self-organization and communication skills.
Location This position is on-site and full-time at our Rolling Meadows, IL location.
Salary and Benefits Salary Range: $119,200.00 - $178,800.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company-paid holidays and paid time off for vacation and/or personal business.
