is accepting applications for

Radio and Electronic

Repair Supervisor*

who will supervise Communications Technicians as they perform installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and repair of radio equipment including mobile two-way radios, handheld radios, antennas, associated feed lines, multi coupling, and ancillary equipment including encoders, decoders, power supplies, electronic sirens, and light bars. This position is characterized by the full supervisory responsibility over a specialized unit of Communication Technicians. Responsible to provide instruction on safety and technical procedures; develop and implement training plans; conduct field surveys; estimate installation and repair costs of communications equipment; recommend whether to repair or replace parts and equipment; communicate with vendors and customers; perform audits to ensure accurate records; examine job orders/time accounting records to verify correct billing information; and prepare reports and correspondence.

San Bernardino County's Public Safety Communications Division

operates a modern, P25 trunked radio system and microwave transport network serving Law Enforcement, Fire/EMS, and General Government Service Providers in the largest county in the United States. The County administers these networks as a self-supporting end user, offering staff members the ability to fully engage in numerous aspects of ongoing system operation, maintenance, and upgrade activities. Staff members have the opportunity to hone existing skills, as well as develop new skill sets, knowledge, and expertise as they perform important work assignments to both maintain and improve emergency systems operating within a mission critical environment.

Applicants must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting, work history & education check, as well as a job-related physical exam and drug screening.

Working Conditions:

Employees are subject to on-call duties, 24-hour call-back, and may be asked to work during unusual hours, in inclement weather and other adverse circumstances.

Physical Conditions: Duties may include working in confined spaces and climbing ladders to install, inspect, and maintain equipment. Employees must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Transportation:

Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.

Experience:

Three (3) years of experience as a lead worker or leading projects installing, maintaining, and repairing radio or microwave systems.

-AND-

Education:

Fifteen (15) semester (23 quarter) units of completed post-high school technical coursework in electronics or communication technology

OR

one hundred and fifty (150) hours of classroom instruction in the same areas. A list of related coursework

must

be submitted with the application. Substitution: One (1) year of additional qualifying experience may substitute the education requirement.
