The Structural Engineering division works on a variety of marine terminal project types including evaluation, new design, upgrade, repair and rehabilitation of existing marine structures throughout the Americas. Our work comprises pile-supported wharves and piers, breasting/mooring dolphins, bulkheads, and yard areas as part of container terminals, bulk handling facilities, and fuel transfer hubs. You will contribute to multi-disciplinary teams of structural, geotechnical, mechanical, fire, and civil engineers working with SGH.
Responsibilities
Manage a team of talented marine designers as an essential part of the marine project delivery
Lead on designs, inspection, evaluation, and analysis of a variety of marine, waterfront and port structures, including buildings
Review calculations for project components that predominantly include structural concrete, prestressed concrete and steel elements, at locations of high seismicity and hurricane exposure
Work with the principal-in-charge, senior project managers, and junior staff to plan and execute projects
Interact and coordinate with clients, contractors, and other project partners
Serve as a project manager on select projects including management of budgets, schedules, and staffing
Execute and manage development of construction drawings, structural calculation packages, and technical specifications
Provide construction administration and field observation services with the opportunity to travel to foreign countries where projects are located
Assist with training, mentoring, and managing junior staff
Assist in proposal development and business development efforts
Pursue professional activities to gain professional recognition
Qualifications
M.S. degree in Civil, Structural Engineering required
9+ years of experience in structural analysis and design of structural concrete, prestressed concrete and steel structures
Fluency on ASCE 61 and PIANC Seismic design of Port Structures Guidelines is a plus
Registered professional engineer in the United States, or ability to obtain within 12 months of joining SGH
Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
Communication skills: excellent written, oral and verbal communication; ability to convey information to internal and external clients clearly. Spanish speaking is a plus
Problem-solving ability: capability to solve minor or complex problems using data, logic, and judgment; strong attention to detail with excellent analytical skills
Ability to travel for project site visits, client meetings, and business development, including some overnight travel and international travel
Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report

Compensation The below range is a good faith estimate pursuant to applicable equal pay and pay transparency laws. The actual salary offered will be based on several factors including the candidate’s experience, qualifications and work location.
Base salary is a part of SGH’s industry leading Total Compensation package. Our Total Compensation package includes base salary, pay for extra hours worked, an annual discretionary bonus program, generous paid time off, and health and wellness benefits with a special emphasis on substantial SGH contributions to medical insurance premiums and SGH’s Profit Sharing & 401(k) Plan.
$105,040—$144,560 USD
