The Protected Communication Systems (PCS) team is hiring a temporary Principal Systems Engineer with a strong defense communications systems background to support programs for our US military and various international customers, keeping the world safe from foreign threats. As part of this temporary assignment, you will offer mentorship through the design, development, and integration of products through advising junior engineers in communications equipment and software principles. You will collaborate closely with hardware, software and systems engineers to ensure seamless system performance and deliver innovative solutions that meet customer needs.
What You Will Do
Support the definition of system requirements, specifications, and architecture for electronic products based on project goals and customer needs
Mentor those driving and executing the design and architecture of system-level solutions, hardware integration, firmware, and software components
Work with cross-functional team members (hardware and software engineers) to ensure system compatibility and performance
Consult on system-level testing, validation, and troubleshooting to ensure reliability and functionality
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 18 years of experience
Experience in electronic product development, preferably within multidisciplinary teams
Experience with communications hardware and software
Experience leading cross-functional teams
A current active Top Secret Clearance. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Prefer
Embedded systems, microcontrollers, and communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART)
Experience with voice communication systems, including VoIP (Voice over IP) protocols like SIP, RTP and SRTP
Multicast networking (e.g., IGMP, PIM) for efficient data transmission in communication systems
Networking principles, including TCP/IP, UDP, and network troubleshooting tools (e.g., Wireshark).
