The ultrasound technologist is responsible for performing the clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations (abdominal, small part, OB/GYN, vascular ultrasound and special procedures). The exams must be performed according to the established policies and protocols by Holy Cross Hospital Sinai Health System. The ultrasound technologist performs portable exams in the ER, OR, or patients rooms and also assists with the daily operations of the ultrasound department. Organizes daily work schedule and performs related clerical duties as required. The ultrasound tech is competent in the use of HIS/RIS computer system and PACS. The ultrasound technologist assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographers care. Primary Responsibilities and Duties: Performs high quality diagnostic and interventional ultrasound procedures according to established policy and procedure. Utilizes the appropriate ultrasound worksheet in accordance with department protocol and policy/procedure. Ensures proper sterile techniques and Standard Universal Precautions are applied appropriately to prevent cross contamination during patient care. Demonstrates the ability to follow department Infection Control policy when cleaning and sterilization of transvaginal transducer. Utilizes (AIDET) Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you, throughout the patient experience; explain the procedure to patient providing the length of time of the exam, prepare patient for diagnostic procedure, positioning patient, and while explaining what you are doing. Ensures training is appropriate for patient safety and optimal technical growth. Education and/or Licensure Requirements: Registered by ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) as RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) in one or more of the following: Abdominal, OB/GYN, or Breast – Required Registered by ARDMS as RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) - Preferred CPR certification – Required Experience: Prefer 1-2 years of experience as a Sonographer, but will consider appointment based on interview and demonstration of scanning competency.
