Position Surgical Technician
(Per Diem Position)
Responsibilities
Secure and prepare all supplies required for surgical intervention.
Ensure the preparation and maintenance of the sterile field in OR.
Perform surgical counts according to center policies and procedures.
Prepare patient skin for surgical treatment.
Help monitor patients during surgery.
Provide supportive care during the pre-operative phase.
Perform surgical functions to assist surgeon during surgical procedure.
Collect and label specimens taken during surgical procedure.
Follow all federal, state, and departmental safety procedures.
Maintain a proper sterile field during surgical procedures.
Provide technical assistance to surgeons, surgical nurses, or anesthesiologists.
Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning on the operating table and covering with sterile drapes to prevent exposure.
Hand instruments and supplies to surgeons and surgeons' assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and perform other tasks as directed by the surgeon during operation.
Prepare, care for, and dispose of tissue specimens.
Wash and sterilize equipment, using proper products and sterilizing techniques per manufacturers' guidelines.
Monitor and continually assess operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs.
Operate, assemble, adjust, or monitor sterilizers, lights, suction machines, or diagnostic equipment to ensure proper operation.
Disinfect all the equipment and tools used after the surgery.
Assist with cleaning and turnover of the operating room after the procedure.
Qualifications
Orthopedic experience is required.
2+ years’ experience preferred.
Adheres to AORN guidelines.
Certification through a CAAHEP-accredited program required.
BLS certification.
Familiarity with all surgical instruments and equipment.
Able to lift 50 lbs.
Working knowledge of sterile and aseptic technique.
