Overview
Clinical Pharmacist I (Specialty) oversees and supports all specialty pharmacy medication activities. This includes supervising pharmacy technicians and ensuring the clinical appropriateness of medications, such as proper dosing and potential drug interactions, before dispensing. Additionally, this role facilitates new patient enrollment and promotes medication adherence for patients prescribed specialty medications. Serving as the primary medication expert, the Clinical Pharmacist I (Specialty) acts as the main point of contact, providing support to providers, staff, and patients as needed.
Responsibilities
Oversee the processing and preparations of all specialty medications.
Verify all patient information before filling a prescription.
Perform quality checks on prescriptions for clinical appropriateness, correct dosage, drug interactions, etc.
Responsible for checking all medications prior to dispensing.
Perform and/or oversee data entry of prescriptions in the pharmacy management systems.
Performs medical adherence follow-up and address any non-adherence for patients on specialty medications.
Provide pharmacy clinical support for all providers and staff when needed.
Provide consultation and medication education to patients and caregivers upon dispensing a prescription.
Exhibit expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards for their area.
Payer follow up and communicate with physicians and health plans as needed.
Complete third-party insurance forms, patient assistance, and other paperwork as needed.
Ensure the pharmacy team is providing the best possible customer service and patient care.
Ensure the timely communication with providers and patients regarding patient medication concerns or issues.
Ensure timely follow up regarding patient's specialty pharmacy medication management concerns.
Qualifications
Graduate of ACPE - Accredited Pharmacy School
Current CA Pharmacist License
BLS certification through the American Heart Association
