Our client, a global leader in the paints and coatings manufacturing industry, is seeking an experienced Process Safety Engineer to be based at their Shelby, North Carolina facility.
As the site Process Safety Management Engineer for our Commercial manufacturing site, you will ensure all OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Plans (RMP) are performed. The Shelby site executes manufacturing processes including exothermic reactions and handles reactive raw materials. You will report to the Plant Manager.
Responsibilities
Plan and lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and revalidations on schedule. Ensure adequate team make-up and experience with site-based and new-eyes capabilities on each PHA to enable identification of proper scenarios. Ensure all PHA scenarios have an adequate level of risk mitigation plans, with appropriate layers of protection based on the risk of failure of each layer. Lead the resolution of all identified action items from PHAs related to inadequate mitigation layers and from PSM audit findings. Champion new technology and design that will minimize chemical hazard risk and reduce consequences. Manage the Management of Change (MOC) process, including sign-off approvals for PSM changes. Participate in all Pre-Startup Safety Reviews. Ensure Process Safety Information, including accurate P&IDs, is maintained for PSM-covered processes. Provide oversight of Mechanical Integrity in collaboration with the Site Engineering and Maintenance Manager. Develop and administer PSM training for PSM disciplines and coordinate regulatory inspections and audits for the site. Promote and coordinate employee participation in PSM elements. Qualifications
Only U.S. Citizens, Green Card holders, and political asylees or refugees are eligible to apply. B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Safety, or related science. 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably a PSM-rated chemical facility. A technical background in manufacturing with knowledge of OSHA PSM Standards and EPA RMP (Risk Management Program) regulations. Knowledge of engineering principles of qualitative and quantitative risk analysis/assessment. Experience applying process safety through process hazard analysis methodology. Seniority level
