The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology has faculty and staff making contributions to research, clinical trials, and nationally recognized patient care. Gastroenterology & GI Surgery is highly ranked and our clinical partner, the University of Colorado Hospital, is highly ranked by U.S.News and World Report. The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is rapidly growing, with clinical practices throughout the state of Colorado and over 150 researchers, physicians and staff, all working toward its vision to prevent and treat disease while being a global model for patient care delivery, interdisciplinary research, and training. Responsibilities
Director of Endoscopy Key Responsibilities: Functions as the director of clinical operations for the endoscopy unit at Anschutz Medical Campus, including interventional as well as general GI procedural missions. Responsibilities include assessing and optimizing procedural block utilization, procedural scheduling, patient access, endoscopic safety and quality metrics, equipment procurement, maintenance, sterilization, and upgrades over time. This role will also partner closely with the nurse manager of endoscopy and the hospital administrative staff in the procedural and perioperative service lines. You will also partner with anesthesia leadership to ensure adequate anesthesia staffing in the endoscopy unit as well as safe and effective sedation for all endoscopic procedures. Functions as the primary point person between the department/division and the hospitals operations, quality, and safety departments with a goal of promoting collaboration and high-quality, safe patient care within the endoscopy unit on the Anschutz Medical Campus. Administrative effort of 0.2 FTE will be protected for the Director of Endoscopy role. Expectations
Leadership & Strategy Provide clinical oversight and guidance for endoscopic procedures, ensuring adherence to best practices, quality standards, and patient safety protocols. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including administrative leadership, nurses, technicians, and support staff, to optimize patient care delivery and outcomes, with an eye towards maximizing throughput and efficiencies. Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the endoscopy unit. Serve as a clinical resource for complex cases, procedural techniques, and clinical decision-making. The provider communicates appropriately and effectively with study subjects, investigators, and other team members, and has outstanding customer service skills and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Quality Assurance: Partners with nursing, administrative, and quality leaders to participate in quality assurance programs to monitor and improve the quality of endoscopic services. Establish clinical protocols, guidelines, and performance metrics to measure and enhance patient outcomes and experience. As an important member of the clinical team, the Director of Endoscopy will have both inpatient and outpatient clinical responsibilities, including consultations and endoscopic procedures, inpatient attending, and teaching duties. The Director of Endoscopy will dedicate 0.8 cFTE to perform clinical duties at UCH and affiliated hospitals. Clinical Responsibilities
Evaluation and treatment of patients with GI disorders. Therapeutic Endoscopy interventions, including:
ERCP with established experience in altered anatomy and post liver transplant procedures, and intraductal endoscopy. Diagnostic and therapeutic EUS. Complex EMR Deep enteroscopy Advanced techniques for enteral access and nutritional support
Participate in division and section activities including teaching GI fellows and advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellows, presenting at GI grand rounds and other conferences, participating in CME events, and mentoring of fellows and faculty. Work Location

Minimum Qualifications: A medical degree from an accredited institution. Board certification/eligible in Internal Medicine Board certified in Gastroenterology One year of interventional endoscopy fellowship/advanced endoscopy training. Must have, or be eligible to obtain, an active State of Colorado medical license Must have an active DEA license on or before hire date Must have a record of scholarship, teaching, and service sufficient to be appointed as an assistant professor or higher at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Preferred Qualifications: 3-5 years of post-fellowship experience Experience working in an academic medical center. Experience with teaching fellows and residents. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution. Outstanding customer service and patient relations skills. Excellent organizational skills, ability to problem-solve, multi-task, and work independently. Excellent attention to detail. Knowledge of the professional medical practice to give and evaluate patient care in the gastroenterology clinic. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
