Overview

Optimus Health Care is seeking a Medical Director for Behavioral Health Services. This is a part-time role based in Bridgeport, approximately 20-32 hours per week. The Medical Director will oversee the medical aspects and medical staff of the Behavioral Health Department, collaborate with the Director of Clinical Outpatient Behavioral Health Services to integrate BH services, and provide comprehensive behavioral health care to a diverse and underserved patient population. The position is expected to devote about 90% of time to direct patient care and 10% to administrative duties. The role includes guidance to administration, providers, and nursing staff regarding BH services and represents Optimus BH in the community. Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Knowledge of assessment and treatment of the full range of mental disorders, including familiarity with psychotropic medications; skills in assessments and report writing, counseling (short-term treatment and crisis intervention), support group organization and facilitation, and consultation. Working knowledge of local community mental health resources. Knowledge of and commitment to integrated care models in which BH providers collaborate with primary care clinicians, psychiatrists, and nursing staff. Excellent managerial skills with ability to plan, organize, and follow through in a timely manner. Ability to provide leadership in a supervisory role and function as a team member at the management level. Knowledge of legal requirements for mental health services (e.g., HIPAA, responding to legal requests, court orders) regarding patient information and testimony. Knowledge of general medical practice models and processes (office procedures, medical records, health insurance billing). Liaison with outside agencies and professional staff as needed; consult with professional staff regarding patient care. Maintain patient documentation accurately and timely. Participate in Performance Improvement activities and projects as requested by Chief Medical Officer/Director. Develop a plan to expand BH Services in collaboration with the Director. Regularly assess patients’ mental status to determine acuity and risk, taking action as needed. Additional general requirements: collaborate with diverse individuals, problem solve, and resolve conflicts; understand and respond to special populations; contribute to continuous quality improvement; proficient with computers and EMR; travel as needed; work effectively under stress and manage multiple projects. Education

Board Certified in Psychiatry or Eligible for certification. Experience

Five plus years of direct clinical experience with community health populations, preferably in an integrated model. Two or more years supervising/mentoring employees (including as an approved Supervisor) and two or more years in behavioral health program administration, preferably in a medical clinic setting. Experience administrating Medicare and Medicaid programs is preferred. Strong clinical skills in evaluations, crisis intervention, diagnostic and treatment planning, and delivery of brief cognitive-behavioral therapy; team-building experience; familiarity with telemedicine is a plus. Language Skills

Facilitation of medical Spanish helpful. Licensure / Certification

Licensed to practice psychiatry in the State of Connecticut. Working for Optimus
