Unity Search is partnering with a major publicly traded hospitality client to find a dynamic and experienced
Senior Payroll Manager
to lead payroll operations and ensure the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of payroll processes across the organization. This leader will bring deep expertise in payroll accounting, a strong grasp of compliance requirements, and proven success managing large, high-performing teams. The Senior Payroll Manager will oversee payroll for a diverse workforce, partner with Finance, HR, and other business leaders, and drive process improvements to support scalability and operational excellence. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Leadership & Team Management Lead, develop, and mentor a payroll team of 10+ professionals across multiple locations. Establish a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Payroll Operations & Strategy Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for domestic and international employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Implement and maintain policies, procedures, and controls that support compliance and efficiency. Partner with HR, Finance, and IT to ensure seamless integration of payroll with HRIS, benefits, and accounting systems. Payroll Accounting & Compliance Own payroll accounting functions, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and reporting. Ensure proper controls and compliance with GAAP, SOX, and other regulatory requirements. Oversee tax filings, W-2s, and year-end reporting in coordination with third-party vendors. Process Improvement & Systems Evaluate and optimize payroll systems, tools, and vendor relationships to drive scalability and efficiency. Lead or participate in payroll system upgrades, implementations, and automation initiatives. Develop dashboards, metrics, and analytics to provide leadership visibility into payroll accuracy and trends. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s or CPA a plus). 10+ years of payroll experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role managing large teams. Strong knowledge of payroll accounting, GAAP, and regulatory compliance. Experience leading payroll for a multi-state, large-scale organization (global experience preferred). Proficiency with enterprise HRIS/payroll systems (e.g., Workday, ADP, Oracle, SAP, UKG). Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
