Overview
Georgia Cancer Center seeks a leader to manage Bioinformatics Central, including consultation, recruiting, overseeing core support staff, and providing leadership in developing core resources and research support. The team comprises about 15 Ph.D.-level researchers. Responsibilities
Determine Georgia Cancer Center needs and work with core Scientific Directors to set strategic, scientific, and operational priorities. Provide bioinformatics services to investigators across campus, including pre-experiment/grant consulting, application, and training on core software tools, and integration of user-generated and large-scale public data sets. Develop staffing plans, oversee recruitment, and manage database design, interface design, and information processing. Coordinate a monthly seminar series, trainings, mini-courses, and user groups for bioinformatics activities. Develop and promote a funding model for expansion and sustainability of the core, including investments from organizational units, charge-back models, and collaborative grant applications. Lead and collaborate on grant applications related to bioinformatics core projects. Enable implementation of scalable workflows to disseminate analytical advances to the research community. Participate in national/international efforts to establish best practices and standards for omics basic science and potential integration with clinical data. Responsible for planning, monitoring, and managing the department budget. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications
Required:
Ph.D. with at least one year of directly applicable experience and supervisory experience; or Required:
Master’s degree with at least five years of progressive grant management, resources management and QA experience and supervisory experience; or Required:
Bachelor’s degree with at least eight years of progressive grant management, resources management and QA experience and supervisory experience. Preferred Qualifications
Analytical, writing, and communication excellence. Commitment to bioinformatics support for diverse projects. Experience in project and people management. Knowledge of public bioinformatics data sources, genomics tools, single-cell analyses, and gene expression analysis. Software development experience; proficiency in scripting; experience with SQL or relational databases, Unix, high-dimensional data management and analysis; proficiency in R and Bioconductor; Python preferred. Experience designing and maintaining databases (metadata). Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Deep knowledge of relevant concepts, practices, and policies; ability to lead multiple collaborative teams. Ability to drive operational initiatives to meet customer service standards; maintain confidentiality; strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication. Detail-oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and related software. Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (exempt level may require outside normal hours) Pay Band: B12 Salary Minimum: $62,300 - $65,000 Salary is commensurate with qualifications within the established range. Additional Information
