Overview
Research Manager role at Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) within the Center for Education Policy Research (CEPR). The Research Manager will lead analyses and serve as the hub for CEPR research projects, collaborating with PIs, research analysts, and external partners to ensure timely execution of CEPR studies. The position may work on the States Leading States project, a multiyear collaboration with state education agencies to answer policy questions on topics such as time spent learning, math and literacy achievement, and college and career readiness. CEPR aims to transform education through quality research and evidence, supporting informed decision-making by education leaders and practitioners. Job Responsibilities
Analyses : Lead development of new analyses, propose research questions, identify policies for evaluation, and determine appropriate analytical approaches. Pre-analysis planning : Write pre-analysis plans detailing planned analyses, key variables, and deliverables to coordinate workflows and align with open science principles. Mentorship : Guide and teach others in appropriate statistical methods; gather and act on feedback from faculty, PIs, and senior researchers. Analysis quality : Quickly identify anomalies in results and conduct further analyses to explain them. Programming : Perform complex programming tasks. Team capacity : Allocate programming tasks across analysts to improve efficiency. Code quality : Ensure code is quality controlled and well documented. Partner Relations and Communications : Present key research findings to internal and external audiences; contribute to drafting reports and presentations for partner leadership (state education leaders, school boards, superintendents, principals). Teamwork and Management : Manage substantial portions of projects; develop work plans; meet deadlines; ensure high-quality outputs; produce presentations and reports; coordinate with PIs/project directors and external partners; work with an Associate Director of Research to provide analytic guidance, manage workflows, and supervise staff; train and supervise junior staff; maintain clear communication with PIs/project directors. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in economics, political science, public policy, statistics, computer science, or a related field (required before starting) At least 5+ years of professional work experience (relevant coursework may count) Project and/or people management experience Strong facility with Stata Applicants should submit a single PDF with a cover letter and resume; indicate that they meet all basic requirements in the cover letter or resume. Candidates moving beyond an initial screen may be asked to complete a case study, submit sample code, and provide a writing sample; final round may include a presentation of prior work. This is a term appointment for one year from the date of hire with a strong possibility of continuation. The position is hybrid with 3 days in the Cambridge office and 2 days remote.
