Commercial Banking Relationship Officer - Special Assets
Arbor Bank is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Commercial Banking Officer to join our team. This role is structured to spend 50% of time managing special & troubled assets and 50% on new client acquisition and relationship management within the commercial banking portfolio.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in distressed loan management, including underwriting, structuring, and navigating complex credit situations such as loan workouts and restructurings. Equally important is the ability to use a consultative approach to cultivate new business opportunities, build lasting client relationships, and provide tailored financial solutions that support client growth.
This position aligns with Arbor Bank’s mission to be a Guiding Force to the business owner, combining strategic credit expertise with relationship-driven banking.
Essential Duties
Proactively manage special assets and troubled credits, including identifying early signs of deterioration, recommending remedial strategies, and coordinating with legal, credit, and risk departments.
Lead loan workouts, restructurings, forbearance agreements, and other resolution strategies with bank clients to mitigate risk and protect the Bank’s interests.
Prepare and present comprehensive credit memorandums and risk assessments to loan committees and executive management with the support of dedicated credit analysis staff.
Originate, structure, and manage a portfolio of commercial loans, including C&I, CRE, and SBA loans.
Demonstrate accountability and active leadership in the sales process through:
Participate in weekly business development meetings to implement strategies to attract new clients, expand loan portfolio and increase market share.
Furnish weekly business development reports: tracks and maintains database of calls, leads, prospects, pipeline utilizing Bank’s CRM.
Actively solicit new business to the bank.
Identify and refer opportunities to other areas of the Bank, including Treasury, Insurance, Mortgage & Deposit.
Embed Arbor Bank’s Core Values in interactions with colleagues, clients, prospects, and the community.
Credit memos must comply with Bank, Federal and State policies and regulations. Seek high-quality business.
Monitor and maintain the loan portfolio proactively, including ensuring required documentation, performing inspections as needed, reviewing financials, and reviewing borrowing base certificates on a regular basis.
Support organizational strategies and initiatives.
Be actively involved in the Omaha and Elkhorn communities.
Communicate proactively with Credit and Loan Administration to ensure sound documentation that conforms to policy and regulatory requirements.
Provide prompt and effective service to all internal and external customers.
Demonstrate commitment, dependability, and respect for team members.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance, punctuality, and adherence to the scheduled availability.
Perform physical requirements as described in the physical requirements section.
Special projects and other duties as assigned or needed.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA or advanced degree is desirable.
Direct experience in special assets, loan workouts or distressed assets.
Experience in restructuring problem loans, handling legal issues related to default, foreclosure, bankruptcy, and liquidation.
5-7 years of experience in commercial lending, with a proven track record in business development, client relationship management, and loan origination of mid-market companies, corporations & institutions of moderate complexity.
Strong knowledge of commercial credit underwriting, loan documentation, and banking regulations.
Deep financial analysis skills to evaluate creditworthiness and assess risk factors in commercial loan transactions.
Exceptional negotiation, interpersonal, and client management skills.
Proficiency in financial analysis software and credit scoring models.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to prepare and present complex financial information clearly.
Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute growth strategies.
Ability to mentor, train, and guide commercial banking professionals toward career advancement and loan portfolio success.
Proficiency with CRM platforms (SalesForce).
Physical demands include bending, sitting, driving, and occasional lifting up to 15 lbs.
This is a sedentary role involving prolonged sitting/standing as required.
Ability to communicate effectively and exchange information with others.
Driving may be required.
Work Environment
No adverse environmental conditions expected.
Position type and expected hours of work:
Full time, typical hours 8-5 M-F with weekends/evenings as needed.
Travel:
5% local/regional travel
