About the Role

We need a Senior Design Lead to own and shape the user experience of our web-based application. You will lead a team of designers, drive design strategy from discovery through delivery, and ensure our platform delivers user-friendly, accessible experiences for state services. This role sits at the intersection of design, product, and engineering. You will translate user needs into compelling designs while mentoring your team and collaborating across departments. This position requires full-time onsite presence in the Baltimore-Washington area. What You’ll Do

Lead the end-to-end design process from research to final visual design and delivery Manage and mentor a team of UX/UI designers Define product design strategy with product, engineering, and leadership teams Conduct user research, testing, and feedback sessions to advocate for user needs Create wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs Build and maintain a scalable design system and UI component library Work with developers to ensure accurate implementation of designs Ensure designs meet accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1) and work across all devices Use analytics and user data to drive design improvements Present design work to stakeholders and explain design decisions Facilitate workshops and meetings to gather stakeholder feedback Apply human-centered design practices to improve user experiences with state services What You’ll Need

Required: 5+ years of experience in user experience and service design Strong portfolio showing UX and UI design for responsive web applications Proficiency in Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, or similar tools Deep understanding of web design principles, usability, and responsive design Solid experience with user research methods and usability testing Proven leadership and mentoring abilities Strong communication and presentation skills Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design principles Bachelor’s degree (or 5 years equivalent experience in related field) Must be able to work onsite in the Baltimore-Washington area Monday through Friday Preferred

Experience designing enterprise applications or dashboards Familiarity with Angular and design handoff tools like Figma Dev Mode Experience with design tokens and versioning Background in public sector or government services What Makes You Great for This Role
