We're seeking an experienced newsroom visual leader to drive high-impact storytelling across print and digital platforms. This is a senior-level role for someone with a sharp editorial eye, deep design expertise, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced news environment.
What You'll Do
Lead and manage visual storytelling for a busy newsroom, balancing hourly, daily, and weekly deadlines. Collaborate directly with editors to create compelling, accurate, and visually engaging journalism. Oversee publication design, ensuring strong visual and typographical standards across print and digital. Assign and art direct illustrations, leveraging your network of established and emerging artists. Create clear, impactful data visualizations that simplify complex financial and political topics. Work fluently in both digital and print CMS platforms, including Wordpress and Methode. Maintain journalistic integrity while pushing for creative, fresh, and audience-driven visuals.
What We're Looking For
5+ years in a newsroom or editorial department (non-junior roles only). Proven publication design experience with a portfolio of high-quality editorial work. Expert skills in Adobe Creative Cloud; proficiency in basic HTML/CSS and related web languages for data visualization. Familiarity with Figma a plus. Strong grasp of visual hierarchy, typography, and editorial design principles. Knowledge of news, politics, and finance, with the ability to translate complex information into accessible visuals. Experience assigning and directing illustration work, with an existing artist network. Assertive, production-oriented mindset with excellent communication skills and comfort working closely with editors. Ability to thrive under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and creativity.
