Under the direction and guidance of the Director of Compensation, this position supports a range of professional, technical, and analytical tasks in the areas of classification and compensation. It assists with the daily delivery of compensation and classification services for classified, wage, and administrative/professional faculty positions as assigned. The role provides support to managers and employees on various classification and compensation-related matters. Responsibilities

Assist in maintaining the integrity of the university's classification systems and compensation structures by interpreting and applying applicable rules, regulations, and standards related to classification and salary analysis. Evaluate requests for new position establishments, position redefinitions, updates, and other related requests. Compile and maintain sources for salary reference data, conduct salary studies, and produce reports, including data manipulation and development of visualizations regarding salaries, workforce demographics, and forecasting the impact of class/comp decisions. Assist in the design, development, communication, execution, and training of compensation/classification programs, policies, tools, and processes. Ensure updates to the Compensation/Classification page of the Division of Talent Management and Culture website are completed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Considerable working knowledge of human resources practices and principles. Working knowledge of policies, procedures and best practices, including laws related to classification/compensation programs. Working knowledge of the Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures. Strong customer service techniques; excellent time management and organizational skills. Analytical and problem-solving skills with accuracy and attention to detail. Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, formulas, graphs) and HRIS systems (e.g., BANNER, PeopleSoft, Oracle) with familiarity of Adobe Acrobat Professional. Ability to interpret and apply policies and provide sound consultative services to managers and employees. Ability to analyze data and statistics, draw conclusions, and develop concise recommendations. Strong written and oral communication with a customer-service focus. Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions on sensitive and confidential issues. Ability to build and sustain relationships with peers and stakeholders to accomplish business objectives. Level and Type of Experience

Some work experience in one or more HR disciplines (compensation, employee relations, staffing, benefits, compliance/regulatory, and organizational/employee development). Some experience with report writing and data visualization software. Some experience communicating complex information to technical and non-technical audiences. Additional Considerations

Knowledge of compensation programs, job analysis/evaluation, market pricing methodology, and/or compensation modeling/analytics. Working knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia policies and practices. Experience with HR information systems and automated recruitment systems such as PAPERS, PMIS, and Banner. Ability to use Power Pivot, PowerBI, Tableau, or related visualization software. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field. Professional designation such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR. Experience in change management knowledge and project management. Experience in salary administration and/or employee recruitment & selection, reviewing market data to make pay-rate recommendations.
