Launching soon, Totei is a digital magazine devoted to sparking inspiration by deepening understanding of artistic craftsmanship. Through vivid storytelling and high-quality multimedia journalism, Totei shines a light on the processes, philosophies, and practices of the world’s most compelling creative individuals — from visionary designers and craftspeople to iconoclastic artists and cultural thinkers.
The Role Totei is looking for a Social Media Editor to create a unique social-first identity.
You’re plugged into social media trends, especially on Instagram and TikTok, with strong ideas about how to adapt them in novel ways. You know how to adapt journalism to a social media context, but you’re also excited about the prospect of building a suite of inventive story formats that are wholly original.
You’ll collaborate closely with the designer and photo editor to make entertaining and immersive social stories, but you’re also a resourceful self-starter who can find solutions to any problem. You have an understanding of what it takes to grow a following on different platforms, and a plan for how to do it in a way that stays true to Totei’s sensibility.
Responsibilities Social
Oversight of all Totei social channels, including writing, copy editing, tracking and publishing assets, and programming calendar management
Translate longform stories into scroll-stopping moments while maintaining editorial integrity and nuance
Design, edit, and/or produce assets for feed and stories as needed
Monitor cultural trends and emerging creators to keep Totei’s social presence fresh, relevant, and distinctive
Invent and develop original social franchises
Comfortable with appearing on camera when appropriate
Maintain a high standard of editorial accuracy and consistency across posts
Growth
Track and report weekly and monthly analytics of social stories
Collaborate with editorial team to optimize content for traffic, engagement, and newsletter conversion
Work to secure appropriate partnerships, social swaps and takeovers
Qualifications Basic qualifications
2+ years working in/with social media full-time
Photo and video editing chops and a back-of-the-hand knowledge of industry tools like PhotoShop, Final Cut Pro, After Effects etc
Strong writing and editorial skills with an ear for headline writing and strong visual instincts
Interest in a range of arts and culture, from fine art to food to architecture
Preferred qualifications
Track record of producing viral social media content
Portfolio of innovative, unexpected social media work
Comfort working in early-stage or startup media environments where roles evolve and initiative is valued
History of growing accounts significantly
Salary Salary Range:
$90,000-$130,000
