The Communications Specialist develops and implements strategic communications to support the mission and goals of the Public Service Commission of Yazoo City. This role manages internal and external communications, promotes public awareness of utility initiatives, and ensures clear, consistent, and professional messaging across all platforms, including digital, print, and media relations. Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute communication strategies to enhance public understanding of the Commission’s services, projects, and policies. Draft, edit, and distribute press releases, newsletters, social media posts, speeches, reports, and other public materials. Serve as the primary media contact and coordinate responses to public inquiries and press coverage. Manage the Commission’s website and social media accounts to ensure timely and accurate content. Support internal communications to engage and inform employees about company news, initiatives, and policies. Coordinate public meetings, community outreach events, and customer engagement campaigns. Assist with the preparation of presentations, talking points, and promotional materials for leadership and staff. Monitor media coverage and public sentiment to provide insight and recommendations. Ensure all communications align with the organization's branding, voice, and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with departments on special projects and customer information campaigns (e.g., outage notifications, infrastructure updates, energy-saving programs). Primarily office-based with occasional fieldwork or attendance at public/community events. Physical Requirements

May involve extended periods of sitting and use of computers and digital devices. Occasional evening or weekend work required for events or urgent communications. Job Related Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field. Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in a communications, PR, or marketing role. Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in social media management tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and basic graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite preferred). Ability to translate technical or utility-related information into customer-friendly language. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Experience in government, utilities, or public-sector communication (preferred but not required). Comfortable working under deadlines and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
