The Role: Manufacturing drives General Motors' success, so keeping our workforce informed and engaged is crucial. We're updating how we communicate with our team to ensure everyone feels connected as they build safe, quality vehicles. In a fast-paced environment with limited technology access, creative communication is vital. If you enjoy change, storytelling, crisis management, media relations, and innovative employee engagement, this role is a chance to make an impact. What You’ll Do: Develop and implement a comprehensive 360° plant communications strategy focused on employee engagement, reputation management, and executive coaching. Manage and enhance internal communications tools, ensuring an employee-centric approach that aligns with GM’s culture and business strategy. Create engaging content that brings GM’s story to life, tailoring corporate messages and announcements for plant employees and the community to maintain a unified voice in the region. Lead initiatives to improve employee engagement at the facility. Strategically plan for plant scheduling changes in partnership with plant leaders, corporate manufacturing, and labor relations. Engage employees through diverse channels such as face-to-face meetings, written communications, and broadcasts. Partner with and coach plant leadership to develop and execute effective communication strategies, especially during crisis situations. Manage media relations and proactively place manufacturing stories in local and national media outlets. Educate employees about GM brands and products to empower them as product ambassadors. Support plant leaders and public policy efforts in building relationships with community leaders and government officials, maintaining key contacts, and advancing corporate grassroots initiatives. Provide strategic guidance on charitable giving and promote related activities to both internal and external audiences. Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications): Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field 7–10 years in professional communications Strong written and verbal skills Content creation, including video and social media Proven ability to develop impactful communications plans Experience building relationships across all employee levels, including unions Media/public relations expertise as company spokesperson Crisis communications experience Background in internal communications and employee engagement Skilled at managing ambiguity and dynamic environments Comfortable advising senior leaders Manages multiple projects simultaneously Self-motivated; flexible, adaptable, creative; minimal supervision Able to travel up to 10% domestically Works full-time on site in manufacturing, supports occasional second/third shift activities Preferred Qualifications: Interest in automotive and technical areas Manufacturing and labor experience #LI-ST1
