Cole-Frieman & Mallon LLP is a prestigious boutique law firm based in San Francisco with a robust national practice, representing private funds and their managers. Our firm advises on over 300 fund launches each year. Additionally, CFM has highly regarded practices focusing on cryptocurrency and digital asset transactional matters, as well as cybersecurity.
CFM is seeking a motivated Junior Associate to join our Intellectual Property practice at one of our offices in either the Bay Area, Denver or NY. This role is ideal for a candidate with strong academic credentials, hands-on IP experience, and a demonstrated interest in emerging technologies. The position offers the opportunity to work directly with partners and clients across a wide range of industries including technology, finance, consumer goods, fashion, and Web3. We have no billable hours requirement (Associates average 1500 hours per year).
Responsibilities
Trademark Clearance & Prosecution:
Conduct clearance searches, prepare risk assessments, and draft/prosecute domestic and international trademark applications. Litigation Support:
Assist in research, drafting pleadings, discovery responses, and motion practice in IP disputes. Web3 & Emerging Tech:
Advise on IP issues involving blockchain, digital assets, NFTs, and decentralized platforms. Patent Bar-Eligible Matters:
Support on patent-related issues if registered to practice before the USPTO. Qualifications J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to at least one U.S. state bar. 1–3 years of relevant intellectual property experience (internships, clinics, or firm experience considered). Demonstrated experience in trademark clearance and prosecution required. Litigation support experience preferred. Familiarity with Web3 and related technologies strongly preferred. USPTO Patent Bar membership (or eligibility) is a plus. Candidate Profile Strong research, writing, and organizational skills. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, client-facing environment. Collaborative, proactive, and eager to develop expertise across multiple IP disciplines.
