Overview
SpEd Paraprofessional - Preschool performs the day-to-day activities of teaching special education and typically developing preschool students while under the supervision of a teacher. The paraprofessional does not make diagnostic or long-term education decisions regarding students. Supports the preschool teacher in implementing the preschool curriculum and encourages a positive and safe learning environment. Assists the licensed special education teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, nurses, and other evaluative staff in the implementation of the goals of students.

This position addresses current student needs at the specified school. If the current program/school experiences a change in student needs, the individual may be required to change locations to another school where needs are demonstrated. This could occur at any time during the school year.
Work Schedule This is a 4.5 day position (7.5 hours Mon–Thu and 3.75 hours on Friday).
Responsibilities
Reports consistently for work as scheduled
Performs other duties as assigned
Attains proficient or higher evaluations on established Performance Standards
Obtains and maintains certifications necessary to support students with special needs
Performs tasks for student(s) such as meal preparation, feeding, and lunch clean-up, including implementing communication, oral motor, sensory integration, and physical IEP goals
Carries out instructional programs and lessons in various learning environments as designated in the lesson plan
Under supervision of a teacher, works with small groups of students to reinforce material
Assists the student(s) with medical tasks as needed (e.g., dispensing medication, toileting, suctioning) and may involve exposure to blood, vomit, and infectious disease control
Cleans/disinfects regurgitation, blood, and urine
Works with confidential special education student information
Maneuvers and secures wheelchairs
Provides initial first aid/emergency care
Accompanies the student(s) in transitions and daily routines
Assists with programming using physical therapy support equipment
Sanitizes equipment and materials
Monitors behavior contracts and reward systems for students
Trained and able to perform behavioral management through Nonviolent Crisis Intervention techniques
Assists with non-standardized testing of students
Develops and implements teaching aids and games; tutors students as needed
Coordinates completion of assignments with classroom teachers
Works with students in one-to-one or group settings
Assists students in finding materials and books; conducts story time
Monitors students during recess and hallway activities; supervises computer programs
Assists with classroom tasks and preparation of materials and equipment
Attends meetings and required trainings during the school year
Serves as a resource to the student personnel evaluation team as needed
Integrates assisted technology into classrooms; maintains student files
Maintains, orders, and inventories materials and equipment for program operation
Collects data for assessment and monitoring purposes; completes daily paperwork
Performs miscellaneous clerical duties and may laminate materials
Prepares bulletin boards for parents and programs
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to adapt to changing technologies and learn new equipment
Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to create, access, input, retrieve, and manipulate information in various software systems
Record keeping, document management, and filing skills
Ability to work with diverse individuals and maintain professional relationships
Ability to follow oral and written instructions; maintain confidentiality
Strong organizational and time management skills; detail-oriented
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Commitment to education of students
Knowledge of office methods, procedures, and special education practices and related legal requirements
Proficiency with computer and office productivity applications
Positive, student-centered approach and ability to promote a positive classroom climate
Understanding of data privacy laws and implications for the educational community
Willingness to participate in ongoing training, OT/PT training, and job-specific training as required
Willingness to perform delegated nursing practices as trained
Work Environment The work environment may vary between quiet, moderate, and loud conditions and typically occurs in a classroom setting. Occasional visits to homes, schools, offices, or job sites may occur. May involve exposure to fumes and potential safety risks.
Physical Demands The position is active and may require lifting up to 50 lbs with assistance, climbing stairs, and other physical tasks. May involve restraining students when necessary.
Cognitive Functions Requires analyzing, coordinating, evaluating, instructing, negotiating, and using interpersonal skills.
Required Qualifications First Aid/CPR - American Heart Association/Red Cross, High school diploma or equivalent, Non-Crisis Intervention (CPI)
Preferred Qualifications Compensation Range: $20.70 - $21.74
Compensation and Schedule Scheduled Weekly Hours: 33.75
Hours Per Day: 7.5 hours
Number Of Days Per Year: 136 Days (M/T/W/Th, 166)
Benefits Eligibility: Full-time - Regular
