The Executive Director of Communications for Columbus City Schools will manage all communication strategies and initiatives for the district, ensuring effective, transparent, and timely communication with internal and external stakeholders. The Executive Director will work closely with the Chief Communications & Engagement Officer and other district leaders to align communication efforts with the district\'s goals and mission, focusing on enhancing the district\'s public image and fostering positive relationships with the community. The Executive Director serves as an advisor providing comprehensive and proactive communications planning; managing all aspects of media technology and the district’s internal and external communication efforts including but not limited to marketing, brand building, and media relations. Essential Duties

Strategic Communications Leadership: Implement a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with the district\'s mission, goals, and values. Advise the Chief Communications & Engagement Officer and senior leadership on communication matters, including media strategy, public relations, and stakeholder engagement. Ensure accurate and consistent messaging. Ensure the department operates efficiently and effectively, meeting all deadlines and delivering high-quality work. Develop specific marketing campaigns in partnership with the Chief Communications & Engagement Officer. Oversee the day-to-day activities of staff for CCS internal and external communications, media relations, and media technologies. Attend all Board of Education meetings. Media Relations: Cultivate and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets. Serve as a district spokesperson on issues impacting schools; coordinate and disseminate the district\'s responses. Oversee development of press releases, media advisories, and other communications. Monitor media coverage and respond to inquiries. Support marketing through public relations efforts, including broadcast, print, and direct public contact. Serve as point of contact for FOIA and public records requests. Crisis Communications: Oversee crisis communication plans and post-crisis evaluations. Monitor community issues and advise the Chief Communications & Engagement Officer during crisis situations. Digital and Social Media Strategy: Oversee digital communication efforts, including website management, social media strategy, and online content development. Ensure an engaging and accurate online presence. Monitor channels for feedback and engagement. Budget and Resource Management: Manage the Communications Department\'s budget and collaborate on the selection and management of external vendors and contractors as needed. Internal Communications: Lead internal communication efforts to inform and engage district staff. Develop channels and tools for internal messaging, including newsletters and intranet content. Collaborate with HR on staff engagement and retention initiatives. Qualifications

Required Minimum Qualifications Education:

Bachelor\'s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, English, or a related field. Experience:

Minimum of 8 years of experience in media relations, public relations, supervisory, project management, or communications, preferably within the education sector or government. Preferred Qualifications Master\'s degree or higher. Bi- or multilingual capabilities. Experience in urban school districts, government agencies, or large nonprofit organizations. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of local news media practices and the local community\'s climate. Knowledge in media relations, crisis communication, and community engagement. Thorough knowledge of print, web, graphic design, photography, videography, broadcast, and publications development processes. Strong knowledge of urban/public education context. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate with families across cultures and languages. Proficiency with digital tools, including social media and content management systems. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities; ability to work with all levels of district staff. Abilities Analytical ability to develop action plans addressing issues in a timely manner. Strategic thinker with the capacity to manage multiple projects and develop integrated communication plans. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive matters. Commitment to continuous learning and self-improvement. Work Environment
