Overview
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Clinic position with regular Monday-Friday shifts, 8am-5pm. Responsibilities
Participates in the care of patients under the supervision and in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team. Measures and records appropriate vital signs based on departmental policy and patient age. Identifies abnormal values based on age and developmental level and reports findings to the appropriate medical provider. Participates in clinic flow, including assisting with patient arrival, assisting in and performing patient procedures, scheduling new and follow-up appointments, facilitating a smooth patient exit from clinic. Prepares patients for examination, treatment and/or procedures. Observes patients for signs and symptoms of abuse/neglect and reports in accordance with policy. Recognizes emergencies and responds appropriately in adherence to organizational policy and procedure. Performs non-complex procedures, according to clinic policy and documented competency (e.g., simple dressing changes). Provides for comfort needs of patients with consideration of age and special needs. Handles clinic equipment, including preparation, safety testing, cleaning and disinfecting according to hospital policy. Administers prescribed medication and/or vaccinations via ordered route in accordance with department policy. Properly collects, prepares, and secures specimens for point-of-care clinic testing and/or transport; performs point-of-care testing per Laboratory Point of Care Testing Manual Guidelines. Maintains medication inventory and ensures proper disposal of expired medications. Stores medications according to department policy and maintains logs for refrigerator/freezer storage for all medications and vaccines. Documents clinical tasks, testing and procedures in the patient medical record according to guidelines; completes required documentation including waived testing quality control procedures. Maintains privacy of patient information and ensures computer screens are secure when unattended. Navigates the Electronic Medical Record to obtain lab and radiology results, medical records, update demographics, and schedule follow-up appointments. Prepares safety reports when warranted or directed by the clinic manager/designee. Consults with and keeps the clinic manager informed of clinic activities, requirements and problems. Assists with compliance to safety, infection control, quality improvement and other regulatory standards; implements standard and transmission-based precautions; ensures patient safety; maintains a clean clinic environment; reports safety hazards to management. Participates in quality improvement processes (QAPI projects and EOC Rounds). Clerical support: gathers appropriate clinical documentation for review by the medical provider; uses computers, printers, scanners and fax machines; scans outside correspondence into the EMR; obtains outside medical records when needed. BLS Healthcare Provider Certification from the American Heart Association. Licensed to practice as an LPN in Louisiana. Work Structure
