– The Social Media Specialist enhances the university online presence, creates engaging content, and represents the university’s brand across digital platforms. Reporting to the VP of Strategic Operations, this role combines social media strategy, content creation, and public relations to strengthen our relationship with current and prospective students, alumni, and the broader community. The ideal candidate is a proactive storyteller who can capture the spirit of William Carey University through compelling visuals and messages, highlighting university events, achievements, and milestones. Duties And Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive social media strategy to enhance brand visibility, engagement, and reputation. Develop monthly and semester-long content plans that align with university goals, brand standards, and upcoming events. Capture high-quality photos and videos at university events, celebrations, and other activities to showcase William Carey’s vibrant campus life. Create, curate, and schedule original content across various platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and emerging channels. Primary Platforms: 3-4 posts per week on Instagram and Facebook. Secondary Platforms: 1-2 posts per week on LinkedIn and X (formerly Twitter). Monitor social media channels, respond to comments and inquiries, and engage with followers to foster a strong online community. Track and report on social media metrics to measure engagement and adjust strategies as needed to maximize reach. Content Creation Develop visually appealing and on-brand graphics, videos, and written content to support campaigns, announcements, and news. Identify storytelling opportunities within the university, profiling students, faculty, and alumni achievements, academic programs, and events. Work closely with the university’s marketing team to align messaging and ensure consistency across all digital content. Collaboration and Support Collaborate with the Marketing Assistant on designing graphics, creating a visual identity, and capturing photos at various events. Partner with departments including Admissions, Alumni Relations, and Academic Programs to develop targeted social media content that supports enrollment, engagement, and fundraising goals. Act as a resource for staff and faculty by providing guidance on social media best practices. Assist the VP of Strategic Operations in special projects related to digital and public relations strategy. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Journalism, Education, English, or a related field. Experience managing social media accounts for an organization or brand. Proficiency with social media management tools, photography equipment, and basic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva and platforms like Sprout Social). Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a knack for crafting engaging and brand-aligned messages. Ability to multitask and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment. Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail. Platform Knowledge: Deep familiarity with major platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, etc.). Understanding of digital marketing concepts, staying updated with emerging social media trends and tools, and audience engagement strategies. Preferred Qualifications
Experience in public relations or communications. Passion for higher education, student life, and building a sense of community through social media. Eye for photography and ability to capture meaningful moments that reflect William Carey’s culture and values. Scheduling Tools: Proficiency in tools like Hootsuite, Buffer, or Sprout Social. Physical Demands
Mobility to work in a standard office setting and operate office equipment including a computer Ability to read, hear, speak, and communicate effectively Capability to sit or stand for extended periods and handle minor physical tasks Ability to travel for some off-campus visits Ability to perform duties in an on-campus setting Seniority level
