Family Tree partners with all people to prevent and overcome the interconnected issues of child abuse, domestic violence and homelessness to promote safety, healing and stability across generations. We are a long standing non-profit human services agency committed to empowering change and transforming the lives of vulnerable populations in our community. Roots of Courage is a 24/7 confidential emergency shelter for people fleeing domestic violence. It provides advocacy, safety, crisis intervention, non-therapeutic counseling for adult clients and/or children, and operates a 24/7 crisis line in an emergency shelter. Program Purpose
Provide emergency, safe shelter for individuals and those with children actively fleeing domestic violence (Intimate Partner Violence). Roots of Courage offers a confidential location with trauma-informed care that educates on living without fear, violence, abuse and oppression. Position Purpose
Roots of Courage Domestic Violence Advocates navigate crisis intervention and safety planning to provide advocacy and case management for individuals and those with children. Advocates operate a 24/7 crisis line and provide supportive services of emergency, safe shelter. Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Provide case management, trauma-informed support and advocacy, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution for clients in an emergency shelter setting Assist with crisis line coverage to screen in new clients fleeing domestic violence, provide over-the-phone safety planning, and resources/referrals Maintain confidentiality of shelter, employees, and client information per Family Tree policies and applicable laws Demonstrate basic knowledge of domestic violence and its impact on survivors and children Assist clients with housing navigation, benefits acquisition, educational/vocational referrals, financial empowerment, behavioral/health referrals, goal setting, life skills, and establishing a personal support network Enter documentation into Salesforce and other tracking systems; maintain documentation for monthly grant reporting; complete client interactions accurately and timely Follow up on applications for services and complete intakes of new clients Communicate with partner agencies and professionals as needed to better serve clients Required Skills/Competencies
Critical Thinking: ability to analyze facts objectively and respond rationally Problem Solving: ability to work with limited supervision, identify problems, evaluate solutions, and implement them Fostering Teamwork and Collaboration: ability to collaborate with teammates and partner agencies; communicate ideas and disagreements respectfully Flexibility and Adaptability: comfortable with unknowns and fast-paced, changing environments Communication: clear written and verbal communication; ability to provide direction and factual reporting Collaboration: willingness to work with internal departments and community partners Professionalism and Work Ethic: time management, accountability, trauma-informed practice, cultural competency and inclusiveness Initiative: self-directed with strong attention to detail and organizational skills Preferred Skills/Competencies
Relationship Management: ability to build healthy working relationships with Family Tree staff and with vulnerable populations Knowledge of safety planning for survivors of IPV Experience in an emergency shelter or residential setting Knowledge of the Power and Control Wheel Decision Making: gather information, evaluate options, and present solutions Organizational Competency: prioritize workload and manage time with strong attention to detail Digital Literacy: proficient with Microsoft Office and digital resources Resourcefulness: navigate Denver metro resources; understanding of voucher administration and Medicaid billing Working Environment
Full-time, in-office position Must have reliable transportation for scheduled shifts Shelter program operates 24/7/365 Schedule: two evening shift options (Sun-Wed 11am-9pm or Wed-Sat 11am-9pm) Physical Activities
Sitting/standing for long periods Talking and hearing; reading documents and computer screens Manual dexterity to operate computers and telephones Seniority level
