The position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by enhancing preparedness and response for emerging public health threats. This is achieved through providing leadership, guidance, and coordination across various complex program areas including policy, equity, public health practice, communications, clinical expertise, epidemiology, and funding opportunities. The salary listed may not reflect recent increases due to adjustments or fiscal year changes. New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or alternate range, as applicable. *The CDPH is not currently an E-Verify employer. This is an office-based position with up to 20% travel (approximately 1 day per week or 4 days per month), which may vary depending on needs and scheduling with local partners. Travel is required to assigned Local Health Jurisdictions (LHJs). The HPS II will be assigned to one or two of the following Regional Public Health Office regions: Rural North, Bay Area, Greater Sierra-Sacramento, Central California, Southern California, and Los Angeles, based on program needs and partner fit. The Health Program Specialist II (HPS II) is responsible for convening local health jurisdictions to discuss policy issues at local and state levels, developing statewide metrics, sharing best practices, and defining regional projects including data analysis. The HPS II responds to urgent, time-sensitive inquiries and develops policy guidelines and recommendations. The role involves coordinating strategies to leverage legislation, regulations, and partnerships to promote health, including addressing social and structural determinants of health. The HPS II collaborates with public information officers, scientists, and local health sections to support local health jurisdictions and regions. Each team member is directly assigned to specific Public Health Regions. Minimum requirements are detailed in the Class Specification. Candidates will be evaluated based on experience, knowledge of California communities, leadership ability, communication skills, collaboration, and proficiency with virtual meeting platforms.
