City of New York
RESJI Program Coordinator, Bureau of Hepatitis, HIV, and STI
City of New York, Los Angeles, California, United States, 90079
The Division of Disease Control's mission is to safeguard the health of New Yorkers through identification, surveillance, treatment, control, and prevention of infectious diseases, which is achieved through varied and interrelated endeavors of its seven Bureaus.
The Bureau of Hepatitis, HIV, and Sexually Transmitted Infections' (BHHS) mission is to improve the lives of New Yorkers by ending transmission, illness, stigma, and inequities related to viral hepatitis, HIV, and sexually transmitted infections. BHHS accomplishes its mission through testing initiatives; prevention, care, and treatment programming; epidemiology and surveillance; training and technical assistance; community engagement; social marketing; policy advocacy; and racial equity and social justice initiatives.
BHHS works to end viral hepatitis, HIV, and STIs in New York City using an approach that is innovative, intersectional, data informed, and community-driven. The Racial Equity and Social Justice Initiatives (RESJI) Program is committed to supporting BHHS and NYC DOHMH at large in advancing public health strategies that mitigate racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and other systems of oppression that contribute to poor health and health inequities.
The RESJI team does this through leading efforts to embed an equity lens across BHHS research, programmatic, policy, capacity building, and evaluation activities; supports efforts to advance workforce equity, and leads engagement with broader agency-wide internal reform initiatives to advance racial equity and justice.
The RESJI Program is expanding its capacity to support new and ongoing programs serving New Yorkers at risk of or affected by hepatitis, HIV, and STIs; to build capacity of BHHS staff to incorporate racial equity, trauma-informed, and anti-stigma concepts and best practices into their work; and to increase BHHS staff readiness to be racial equity leaders.
This role is a great fit for someone with a demonstrated interest and commitment to health equity. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within diverse teams. Strong candidates will be very organized, diplomatic, flexible, and resourceful.

Support the planning and implementation of virtual and in-person events for BHHS staff to promote a culture of inclusion, and to expand opportunities for community building, professional development, and learning related to equity and social justice. Support administrative and operational functions of the RESJI program, including organization and tracking of financial and budget documentation, scheduling, note-taking, routine reporting to bureau and division leadership, and archiving of RESJI best practices and resources. Support the development, implementation, dissemination, and reporting of staff and community-facing surveys, as needed. Help the RESJI team maintain situational awareness of the social, cultural, and health care contexts affecting BHHS priority populations in NYC.
