Overview Donation Advocate - LifeQuest (Jacksonville) - Variable - Full-Time

The Donation Advocate's primary responsibility is to advocate for organ, eye and tissue donation through notification of donation intent with potential organ donor families or obtaining authorization for donation from donor families on potential donors who have not declared their donation intent. The donation advocate will also obtain, when able, a past medical social history. Information is to be articulated in an easily understood and accurate manner to families whose ability to process information is impaired by emotionally traumatic circumstances. Coordinates and facilitates emotional support during and after the discussion of the donation process remaining aware and sensitive to diversity of all kinds (cultural, religious, educational, etc.) while working with families and hospital staff. Primary first responder to donor referrals from partner hospitals. Responds to referrals as outlined in standards of practice within LifeQuest policies. Position requires extensive monthly on-call duties for 24-7 referral response to hospitals as determined by the director of donation advocacy, manager of donation advocacy or other members of senior leadership.

Responsibilities

Advocate for organ, eye and tissue donation through notification of donation intent with potential donor families or obtaining authorization for donation from donor families on potential donors who have not declared their donation intent.

Obtain, when able, a past medical social history.

Articulate information in an easily understood and accurate manner to families under emotional distress.

Coordinate and facilitate emotional support during and after the discussion of the donation process, remaining aware and sensitive to diversity (cultural, religious, educational, etc.).

Interact with families and hospital staff as a primary first responder to donor referrals from partner hospitals.

Respond to referrals as outlined in LifeQuest standards of practice.

Meet extensive monthly on-call duties for 24-7 referral response to hospitals as determined by senior leadership.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience: A Registered Nurse or Master's Degree in Social Work or Clinical Psychology; OR a Bachelor's Degree in a related allied health field with at least one year of practical experience in an acute health care setting, hospice, bereavement counseling center, chaplaincy, palliative care, or equivalent work experience with active involvement in issues involving death, dying, grief and loss; OR candidates who meet minimum qualifications for an organ procurement coordinator position or hospital services coordinator; OR an Associate degree and one year of applicable work experience within an OPO or tissue bank involving interaction with donor hospitals, referral response, and requesting consent for donation options with families.

Outstanding interpersonal communication skills to interact with grieving families while considering cultural diversities.

Ability to use electronic devices to access and utilize databases, draft letters, send/receive email, and access the Internet for vital donor-family information/resources.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Employees in this position will operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose as a "frequent driver" (definitions provided by employer).
