Overview
Youth Programs Coordinator – City of New York The Campaign Finance Board (CFB) manages New York City’s small donor democracy program and educates and engages voters via NYC Votes. The CFB supports open, transparent, and equitable local democracy and collaborates with staff and community partners to deliver youth-focused civic engagement programs. Key focus: internal facilitation and organization of the NYC Votes Youth Ambassador Program and NYC Votes-led programs, with travel across all five boroughs to deliver civic engagement curriculum to priority youth audiences. Responsibilities
Relationship Management: Research and identify new and existing partner organizations (city agencies, high schools, CBOs, nonprofits, advocacy groups) to expand NYC Votes outreach. Develop partnerships with NYC Public Schools (teachers, staff, students, administrators) in priority zip codes; manage partner accounts and contacts in internal databases. Plan, implement, and tailor partnership-building plans to deliver NYC Votes content and materials in public schools; ensure printed materials and toolkits are widely available before elections. Serve as primary relationship manager between NYC Public Schools and other organizations serving high-school aged youth and the Campaign Finance Board. Support learning by incorporating new partner insights and feedback into team strategy. Trainings, Workshops, and Education Programs: Develop educational content promoting accessibility tools, civic engagement, and voter participation for NYC high school students, staff, and administrators. Plan and deliver community conversations, trainings, and workshops virtually and in-person. Collaborate with high schools to improve education content and delivery, providing accessible print and downloadable materials. Deliver education tailored to audience needs (various formats: discussions, presentations, classroom activities). Ensure accessibility by securing necessary learning materials in collaboration with the Project Management and Operations Team. Create experiential engagement programming and other community engagement activities. Travel to sites across the city to deliver education, distribute materials, and participate in events. Analyze feedback with partners to improve education content and delivery; represent the CFB and NYC Votes at public events. Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Behaviors (KSAOs)
We seek candidates who are curious, eager to learn, and committed to democracy, social justice, or community organizing. Prior political campaign experience is not required. Knowledge
Bachelor’s or related coursework in Political Science, Community Organizing, English, Journalism, Ethnic or Cultural Studies, Social Work, Public Administration, etc.; or equivalent experience. Understanding of New York City systems (libraries, public schools, etc.) and experience with NYC public schools is preferred. Interest in NYC politics and/or social justice; basic knowledge of voting processes and local government. Skills
Excellent public speaking and facilitation; ability to teach a lesson or present to large audiences. Clear communication with partners and stakeholders; strong relationship-building. Strong organizational skills; ability to follow procedures and track metrics. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Abilities
Willingness to learn on the job; ability to engage in public speaking and community education. Ability to travel independently to events across NYC, including hours beyond typical work time; car service may be provided in certain circumstances. Other
