Overview
25-26 Blended Pre-K Classroom Paraprofessional role at Norman Public Schools. This position encompasses instructional support, supervision, and a range of classroom duties under the direction of the building principal and teaching staff. Responsibilities
Assist with instruction and activities for individuals or groups as assigned by the teacher. Supervise students in instructional settings, off-campus activities, and non-instructional periods (recess, assemblies, lunch, drills, etc.). Supervise students in the absence of the teacher. Prepare, create, or adapt instructional materials; set up equipment; assist students with assignments; help maintain classroom displays and supplies; support teachers with student work collection and communication to families. Serve as the primary information source for substitute teachers and support behavior management strategies as directed. Monitor and report special needs of students; assist with external feedings or personal care as required; supervise students during transportation related activities on school grounds. Perform housekeeping duties to maintain a neat and clean classroom; assist with snacks and food safety as needed. Operate office equipment and assist with obtaining supplies for scheduled activities. Maintain confidentiality of student information at all times. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED; college hours helpful for meeting Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements. Credentials: Oklahoma Special Education Paraprofessional Certificate or willingness to complete Tier 2 (Special Education) Paraprofessional requirements and obtain the certificate in a timely manner. Meets Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements (at least one of the following): Completed two years of college (48 hours), an associate degree or higher, or has taken and passed WorkKeys, ParaPro, or OGET. Tier 2 requirements must be completed to obtain and maintain the Oklahoma Special Education Paraprofessional Certificate, including training through a Career Tech Center or state-approved LEA training or PEPPER modules, plus CPR/First Aid, Universal Precautions/Bloodborne Pathogens, and annual professional development credit. Experience: Previous work or volunteer experience with children or teens and clerical experience preferred. Other: Reports to Building Principal; contract: 175 days; salary: Teacher’s Assistant; FLSA: Non-exempt. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
