Monday – Friday between 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM Job Description: Paul D. Camp Community College is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia. The college offers associate degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates in transfer and career/technical programs; credit and non-credit workforce services and training for businesses and industries; special interest classes for the community; and summer classes for youth through the Regional Workforce Development Center. Essential Functions: Provide counseling for students with an understanding of legal and ethical considerations. Assist in the research and evaluation aimed at improving school guidance and counseling programs. Utilize skills and processes related to the school counseling program at all school levels. Help students evaluate career interests and choices. Aid and counsel students in course and subject selection. Obtain and disseminate occupational information to students. Assist students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of standardized test scores. Work to discover and develop special abilities of students. Resolve students’ educational handicaps. Work with the Dual Enrollment Coordinator to assist students in registration. Prevent students from dropping out of school. Remain readily available to students for counseling. Work with students on personal problems related to home and family relations. Guide students in their participation in school and community activities. Maintain student records and protect their confidentiality. Supervise the preparation and processing of college, scholarship, and employment applications. Make recommendations to colleges for admissions and scholarships. Provide student information to colleges and potential employers. Confer with teachers, parents, and students regarding students’ needs. Provide in-service training in guidance for teachers and student teachers. Work with teachers and staff to improve educational prospects of students. Interpret the school’s objectives to students, parents, and the community. Assist in creating the master schedule for the school. Coordinate efforts among teachers, students, and parents to promote academic performance. Serve as a member of the School Crisis Management Team. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualification Requirements: Masters degree from an approved counselor education program with clinical experiences. Two years of successful, full-time teaching experience or guidance and counseling experience. Masters degree from an accredited college or university and certification from an approved counselor education program. Two years of successful, full-time teaching experience or guidance and counseling experience. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board may find appropriate. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of practices and techniques used in school administration and supervision. Knowledge of School Board policies and procedures. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software. Effective written and oral communication skills. Competency in understanding principles of human growth and development. Skilled in counseling students for academic, career, and personal/social development. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
