Posting Date: Sep 29, 2025, 8:07:07 PM JOB DESCRIPTION CLASS TITLE: Teacher CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required.
Responsibilities
Plan instruction and provide written lesson plans and preparation aligned with the objectives of the instructional program.
Establish positive learning expectations for all pupils and evaluate pupil progress; maintain current and accurate records of achievements.
Apply instructional methods using contemporary learning theory and teaching methodologies; select and use a range of instructional materials.
Participate in development and implementation of new teaching techniques; maintain bulletin boards and interest areas reflecting current pupil work.
Demonstrate knowledge of curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional level.
Participate in programs to improve student attendance and promote anti-vandalism programs in the school.
Establish and maintain reasonable rules of conduct in the classroom and on school grounds consistent with the Uniform Discipline Code.
Maintain accurate attendance records and seating charts; encourage student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept.
Ensure fairness in teacher-pupil relationships and show understanding and respect for students.
Initiate conferences with parents/guardians, administrators, and/or ancillary personnel as appropriate.
Communicate with parents/guardians and counsel pupils on academic progress, attendance, and conduct.
Participate in in-service meetings and professional staff meetings and use pertinent information and materials provided.
Coordinate and attend class field trips where applicable; may work in extra-curricular and after-school activities.
Utilize resources available in the community to support instruction.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Successful completion of all student teaching requirements as well as all coursework required to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
License Requirements:
Teachers must possess at least one of the following valid teaching licenses issued by the Illinois State Board of Education: Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), properly endorsed for this position.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skill:
Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements; knowledge of contemporary teaching principles and practices; knowledge of classroom and behavior management techniques.
Ability:
Modify instruction to meet student needs; cooperate with faculty and administration in developing and implementing an articulated program of instruction; work effectively with pupils, parents/guardians, staff, and community representatives; understand the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of pupils.
Skill:
Application of contemporary teaching principles and practices; good oral and written communication skills; good interpersonal skills; sound and professional judgment.
Physical Requirements Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands include the ability to stoop occasionally, reach frequently, handle and finger objects occasionally, talk and hear constantly, and near visual acuity; occasional use of visual acuity.
