Assistant Professor of English
FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of English at The City College of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in creative nonfiction, beginning Fall 2026. We seek an accomplished prose writer with a strong record of publication and evidence of effective teaching at the college level. Desirable areas of interest include, but are not limited to the personal essay and memoir, cultural criticism, science and environment writing, and hybrid forms.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach workshops and craft classes at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including General Education courses, introductory creative writing courses, and advanced topics courses in creative nonfiction for undergraduate and graduate MFA students. In addition, the candidate will be expected to maintain an active agenda of publication and participate in student mentoring, departmental and college service activities in a large public university setting, and in the vibrant culture of our MFA Program.
We especially welcome applicants eager to collaborate with a strong team of creative writing colleagues as well as composition and literature colleagues in a thriving Hispanic-Serving Institution located in Harlem.

Candidate must be legally authorized to work Full-time in the United States.
Qualifications Required
MFA or Ph.D. in Creative Writing or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Preferred Qualifications
A publication record that includes at least one book of creative nonfiction from a recognized press, or equivalent literary production
Demonstrable experience teaching at the college or university level
Compensation Salary Range: $82,663 - $94,909. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
