Job Description Summary: St. Jude is seeking a seasoned bioinformatics research scientist to lead and participate in the development of multiple scientific products and initiatives on the St. Jude Cloud project. This position will work on a wide array of scientific problems applicable to large-scale pediatric cancer data sharing.
Concretely, this role will serve as the domain expert working on at least one of our product development teams building applications within the St. Jude Cloud ecosystem, including:
The large-scale data sharing application, Genomics Platform ( https://platform.stjude.cloud )
The pediatric cancer reference knowledgebase, PeCan ( https://pecan.stjude.cloud )
The genomic and epigenomic visualization platform, Visualization Community ( https://viz.stjude.cloud )
Cross-ecosystem projects, such as developing a comprehensive diagnosis ontology used across St. Jude Cloud applications and collecting/harmonizing the catalog of scientific information shared through St. Jude Cloud, will be a major focus. This position will also emphasize developing and publishing bioinformatics workflows that are used to harmonize data published on St. Jude Cloud and are available for external users.
Job Responsibilities:
Lead data analysis and deliver high-quality results by formulating advanced and/or new analytical approaches to address challenging data analysis questions. Deliver data files and document the analytical process. Participate in manuscript preparation at project conclusion. Establish and document protocols or best practices for common research tasks. Recommend ideas to automate or improve existing analysis methods and implement the improvements. Evaluate and test new methods and technologies. Develop reusable code and pipelines. Participate in redistribution and education of novel methods to the research community when required. Lead and participate in departmental developmental projects and interdepartmental team projects. Act as a project manager when required. Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution. Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Minimum Education and/or Training:
Bachelor's degree in bioinformatics, cheminformatics, statistics/computer science (with a background in biological sciences or chemistry), or a related field. Master's degree or PhD preferred. Minimum Experience:
Minimum requirement: Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of relevant post-degree work experience in bioinformatics, cheminformatics, statistics/computer science (with a background in biological sciences or chemistry). Experience exception: Master's degree with 8+ years of relevant post-degree experience or PhD with 5+ years of relevant post-degree experience. Substantial experience in at least one programming or scripting language and at least one statistical package, with R preferred. Compensation: The estimated salary range for this role is $125,840 - $238,160 per year. Explore our
