Overview

Role: Mortgage Loan Originator - Hybrid. By emphasizing ONE Park, ONE Mission, One Team, the Mortgage Loan Originator - Hybrid supports members by providing expert guidance and personalized solutions for their mortgage lending needs. This role serves a hybrid purpose, serving both internal and external referrals and leads to provide mortgage origination for the organization. This role involves processing mortgage loan applications, evaluating buyer, property, and loan conditions for compliance with credit union and secondary market standards, and ensuring accurate and timely submission for underwriting. The Mortgage Loan Originator - Hybrid actively builds relationships with current and potential members as well as real estate professionals; participates in credit union business development events, providing expertise and promoting the credit union's mortgage services. Additionally, this role includes maintaining up-to-date knowledge of mortgage products, cross-selling credit union services, and ensuring a seamless loan process to enhance member satisfaction. Efforts will be made through internal and external sales efforts working within credit union policies and objectives.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Actively work to build credit union mortgage lending business including building relationships within the real estate market, professional groups, select employee groups, as well as within the credit union and existing members. Participate in credit union business development or education events providing mortgage lending expertise, which may take place outside of typical business hours. Conduct lunch and learns with realtors and title companies. Attend the majority of their first mortgage loan closings.

Work directly with members to collect application information; review and evaluate making determination if buyer, property and loan conditions meet credit union and secondary market standards. Utilize knowledge of mortgage options to determine the best mortgage lending scenario. Submit application for underwriting approval; notify applicant of credit decision; provide appropriate disclosures and fee forms per policies and regulations; work with loan underwriter and processor to assemble, organize, and maintain documents for file; assist in loan closing as needed or directed. Ensure accuracy, timeliness and active follow-thru dictated by member needs and availability.

Maintain knowledge of credit union products and services and look for cross sell opportunities which will benefit the member’s financial needs. Provide service as required by the member’s availability including needs that may require appointments or follow-up outside of traditional business hours.

Maintain up to date knowledge of regulations, rules, policies and procedures governing all classes of loans with focus on conventional mortgages, FHA, and VA lending processes as well. Advise manager of any changes that may affect credit union processes to limit risk or loss.

Keep manager up to date with work activities and any issues that may need higher level review. Ensure communication with branch staff for coordination of meeting space for appointments; attend department meetings or training as scheduled. Provide reports as requested.

Perform other duties as assigned.

To cross sell credit union products and services.

To maintain working knowledge of all mortgage products and rates, both within the credit union and from the industry overall.

To maintain a professional work environment, promote teamwork, build respect among coworkers and present a businesslike appearance.

To follow all security policies and procedures and report discrepancies or suspicious activity to manager immediately.

To follow the credit union’s Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering policies and procedures, including running OFAC searches, completing investigative reports of suspicious activity and currency transaction reports timely and without error.

Knowledge and Skills Experience : Three years to five years of similar or related experience.

Education : (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.

Interpersonal Skills Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.

Other Skills Must have demonstrated knowledge in mortgage lending including conventional, FHA, and VA lending processes, requirements and systems. Must have excellent communication skills.
