Overview Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee accounting operations, ensure GAAP compliance, and deliver audit readiness. This role will partner closely with the outgoing VP of Finance, who has been with the company for over a decade, to ensure a seamless transition of knowledge and processes.

The Controller will lead an established finance team—including an Assistant Controller, an Accounting Manager, and two AP Coordinators—while driving improvements in financial reporting, systems, and process efficiency. This role is ideal for a CPA with both public accounting and corporate experience who thrives in a leadership role and enjoys shaping modern financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

Lead all accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.

Oversee preparation of timely and accurate financial and management reporting.

Manage external audits and ensure adherence to GAAP and regulatory standards.

Streamline and improve the month-end and year-end close processes.

Drive process improvements, including automation, digital transformation, and ERP enhancements.

Transition the company from checks to virtual payments, improving treasury efficiency.

Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team (Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, AP Coordinators).

Partner with executive leadership on financial strategy and operational improvements.

Qualifications

CPA required

Blend of public accounting (Big 4 or mid-tier) and corporate/industry finance experience.

Strong technical accounting expertise, with proven experience in financial reporting, audits, and GAAP compliance.

Track record of driving process improvements, systems upgrades, or digital transformation.

Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to mentor and inspire a seasoned team.

Homebuilding, construction, or real estate development industry experience preferred, but not required.

Hybrid work model; ability to be on-site regularly in Visalia, CA.
