Overview

The Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin ("LBJ School") invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Political Science focused on security studies to begin in Fall of academic year 2026-27 (with an August 2026 start date). One of the nation\'s top ten programs in public affairs, the LBJ School is seeking to strengthen its faculty in national security. The LBJ School comprises more than 45 faculty members and approximately 500 undergraduate and graduate students. This faculty would specifically support teaching in the Master of National Security, the National Security Minor and the Master of Global Policy. The appointee is expected to contribute to the core curriculum in these programs by teaching courses on topics such as foundations of international security, military operations and strategy, security cooperation, regional security, or courses that focus on politics and policymaking in defense, intelligence, and national security agencies. Faculty research should focus on a subset of similar themes, demonstrating an ability to contribute to scholarly debates ongoing in top journals and presses in political science and security studies. The appointee\'s research should have direct relevance to public policy. The appointee will also participate in faculty governance in the LBJ School. Responsibilities

Contribute to the core curriculum by teaching courses in foundations of international security, military operations and strategy, security cooperation, regional security, or topics focusing on politics and policymaking in defense, intelligence, and national security agencies. Conduct research in security studies with relevance to public policy and contribute to scholarly debates in top political science journals and presses. Participate in faculty governance and service at the LBJ School. Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Political Science or a related field is required. ABD candidates will be considered if the doctoral degree will be complete by the time of employment. Experience in college teaching and evidence of scholarship or scholarly potential is preferred. Application instructions
