Advanced UX Designer
at GM Design Studios is tasked with designing next-generation user experiences for vehicles. This role involves close collaboration with Vehicle Designers, Software Developers, Program Teams, and Component Designers to ensure the seamless integration of technologies within the vehicle. The designer’s ultimate goal is to provide a considered, wholistic vehicle experience working in an advanced space. A good candidate has knowledge of human centric design, sensibility to aesthetics, form and brand, and an ability to solve user needs and wants over a wide range of customers. This roll requires harmonious combination of creative skills, and technical know-how. Creative exploration while understanding humanistic design is core to the UX designer in this role. Job Responsibilities Concept Development:
Collaborate with other designers to create and refine UX concepts for in-vehicle experiences, considering scalability, human-centered design, and brand consistency. Develop design concepts and production-ready experiences for implementation in both concept and production programs. Define style guides and visual languages to unify the look and feel of user experiences. Demonstrate advanced communication skills in 2D design and illustration. Engage in storytelling and storyboarding to convey design concepts. Generate frameworks for UX interactions. Work with 2D motion and create simple 3D models/animations.
Prototyping and Iteration:
Generate prototype experiences to aid leadership in making informed decisions about future vehicle designs. Produce multiple iterations to address design issues and ensure user needs are met. Build and iterate on interactive prototypes to drive decision-making through user interaction.
Design Execution:
Produce high-quality, innovative designs, including concept sketches, drawings, prototypes, and storyboards. Maintain attention to detail and structure design components for easy handoff to the team. Utilize sophisticated graphic design skills to set the tone for digital experience concepts.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work professionally with engineers, designers, and suppliers worldwide. Communicate and present design concepts effectively to a diverse team. Support design critiques that guide major design decisions. Collaborate closely with team members to craft a world-class user experience across all products and platforms. Strategize with key partners (engineering, software, etc.) to identify and explore opportunities.
Industry Awareness:
Stay updated on design trends within and outside the automotive industry.
Technical Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or Master’s Degree in User Experience or related degree Experience using Figma & Protopie is required Experience with Sketch, XD, Photoshop, and Illustrator Experience with 3D Modeling & Understanding of 3d development Well versed with video editing tools like Premier Pro Understanding of engineering requirements/limitations a plus.
