The Scientist / Sr. Scientist for High Acid is responsible for providing technical support to customers and internal teams for formulation solutions and application directions. The Sr. Beverage High Acid Scientist will be recognized internally as a subject matter expert (SME) in the commercialization of all RTD beverage products (high acid) and will yield expertise in other areas as needed. The scientist will work onsite at the facility in SLC, Utah.
Main Job Functions:
Develop, make, and evaluate finished product applications to support new product development efforts.
Coordinate and execute new product scale-ups for manufacturing.
Perform hands-on work in solving technical issues, including bench work.
Work closely with Sales / Marketing and cross-functional teams on commercializing innovations in formulations and ingredients, and effectively communicate about customer projects.
Lead the commercialization of pilot plant and safely operate lab and pilot plant equipment related to high acid beverage processes.
Develop and lead creative initiatives, successfully manage projects, and serve as an SME/technical liaison between internal and external stakeholders.
Identify potential problems early in the development process and address them with appropriate solutions.
Oversee the setup, design, and implementation of best lab practices.
Actively train direct reports and other team members in all aspects of high acid beverage development and commercialization.
Assist in hiring and building out the high acid beverage innovation team.
Collaborate with Supply Chain to source raw materials needed for product development.
Work with customers and co-packers to conduct pilot batches and scaled-up product runs.

BS in Food Science; an advanced degree is preferred. Experience: Minimum of 8+ years of commercial experience in various high acid beverage categories, including emerging categories like carbonated beverages and juices. Experience in flavor technology is preferred. Experience in setting up a pilot plant is preferred. Knowledge in Product Development, Scale-Up, Quality, and Regulatory aspects. Attention to detail, effective prioritization, and time management skills. Strong communication skills for internal and external interactions. Ability to work well in team problem-solving situations and demonstrate sound judgment.
