Posted Friday, October 3, 2025 at 5:00 AM Glacier Support Services (GSS) is seeking a Scientist to support the United States Army Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR) Research Directorate. USAISR is the premier joint research organization in combat casualty care, focused on advancing burn, trauma, and battlefield medical solutions from point of injury through rehabilitation. As part of this mission, the Scientist will play a critical role in planning, conducting, and analyzing laboratory and preclinical research that directly supports the Warfighter. This position is mission essential and requires on-site work at USAISR laboratories in San Antonio, TX. This position is contingent upon award of contract. Responsibilities

The Scientist will provide technical expertise and research support across one or more of USAISR’s research pillars: Blood & Shock Resuscitation, Hemorrhage & Vascular Dysfunction, Organ Support & Automation Technologies, Combat Wound Care, and Pain & Sensory Trauma. Duties include but are not limited to: Research Execution: Design, plan, and conduct laboratory and translational research studies involving hemorrhage, trauma, organ support, wound care, pain management, and other battlefield-relevant injuries. Sample Processing & Assays: Perform molecular, biochemical, microbiological, cellular, and imaging assays (e.g., PCR, ELISA, western blot, flow cytometry, microscopy, histology). Animal Models: Conduct preclinical research using approved small and large animal models in compliance with IACUC and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards. Laboratory Operations: Maintain laboratory safety documentation, chemical/biological inventories, equipment calibration, and quality assurance records. Scientific Writing: Prepare proposals, manuscripts, technical reports, SOPs, and regulatory submissions. Collaboration & Presentation: Support multi-disciplinary teams, contribute to protocol reviews, and present findings at laboratory meetings, scientific seminars, and national conferences. Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences, Physiology, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field. Demonstrated laboratory research experience in at least one of the following: trauma physiology, wound healing, resuscitation, biomedical engineering, or molecular/genomics methods. Proficiency with laboratory assays and equipment (PCR, flow cytometry, ELISA, microscopy, etc.). Experience with animal research models and adherence to GLP, IACUC, and biosafety requirements. Strong record of scientific writing, publications, or technical reporting. Ability to work independently and in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams under mission-driven timelines. Preferred Qualifications

Experience in combat casualty care, military-relevant biomedical research, or translational medicine. Familiarity with advanced biomedical devices, automation technologies, or telemedicine applications. Proficiency in data analysis software (GraphPad, SAS, R, Python, or equivalent). Prior DoD research or clinical research laboratory experience. Additional Requirements

Must be able to obtain and maintain favorable background checks for access to DoD facilities. Completion of mandatory training (HIPAA, OPSEC, AT Level I, SHARP, etc.) within 60 days of hire. Willingness to work occasional flexible hours, weekends, or on-call shifts to support active research protocols.
