Contemporary Worship Leader – Lyttleton Street United Methodist – Camden, SC

Overview : The Contemporary Worship Leader is responsible for planning and leading the contemporary worship service in collaboration with the Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor, and Director of Music. This role involves leading the worship team, conducting rehearsals, and ensuring musical excellence. Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church actively engages in community ministries, including children/youth programs and a music ministry. We hold two Sunday services: 9:00 a.m. Traditional and 11:15 a.m. Contemporary, with blended services throughout the year. Our social media presence includes Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, where services are posted. Accountability : This is a part-time position. Candidates with additional gifts or skills that benefit the church’s mission are encouraged to present these to the hiring committee for potential additional compensation or job status. The position reports to the Senior Pastor, Director of Music, and the Staff-Parish Relations Committee. Position Specific Plan and lead the contemporary worship service, working with the Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor, and Director of Music, using scripture and themes for the day. Oversee the planning, preparation, and execution of worship music, conducting rehearsals that are productive and well-structured to ensure musical excellence. Provide spiritual leadership, demonstrating strong Christian faith, and seeking opportunities to minister, disciple, and encourage growth in Christ. Build effective teams, identify potential leaders, and equip members for ministry. Coordinate logistics such as setup and teardown for rehearsals and services. Maintain open communication with the worship team regarding rehearsals, services, music, and schedules. Recruit and develop the musical program through outreach and community involvement, demonstrating initiative, motivation, and enthusiasm. Assist the Director of Music with managing musical instruments and equipment maintenance, repair, and security. Attend weekly staff meetings and maintain open communication with staff members. Perform other duties as assigned by pastors or the Director of Music. Engage in the church’s ministries outside of music to actively connect with the congregation and community. Support and collaborate with the Director of Music to expand and support the music ministry. Represent and embody the church’s values and theological direction as a United Methodist Church. Preferably proficient with multiple instruments and experienced in teaching and instructing. Proven experience in performing, training, and directing musicians across various genres. Knowledge of modern worship music, traditional hymns, and secular songs suitable for worship. Able to lead a diverse, multi-generational, multi-ethnic congregation in worship. Effective team building and motivation skills to achieve ambitious goals. Ability to communicate vision clearly and ensure team alignment. Proficiency in Mac and/or PC platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, and preferably Pro Presenter and Planning Center.
