GSD Search has been engaged to identify a Senior Payroll Manager for a client in Nashville. Direct Hire. Openings: 1. Location: Hybrid Nashville (Relocation available). Base pay range: $125,000.00/yr - $130,000.00/yr. Salary range: 125-130k with 15% bonus and 10k RSUs. Responsibilities
Lead the strategy, integrity, and delivery of all LKQ North American payrolls, ensuring compliance and shaping the future of payroll operations through Workday and emerging technologies. Serve as a strategic leader of payroll subject matter experts, building a high-performing team that delivers accurate, efficient, and scalable payroll services. Partner with HR, Finance, and business leadership to anticipate challenges, support growth and acquisitions, and drive continuous improvement across payroll operations. Evaluate existing and new payroll-related regulations to ensure compliance with applicable payroll and tax regulations for the client’s payroll activities and field operations. Develop and maintain payroll processes and internal controls to preserve quality, efficiency, and regulatory compliance, including documentation for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Lead payroll innovation by optimizing Workday Payroll, introducing automation technologies (including AI/RPA), and streamlining workflows to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy. Build and maintain a high-functioning team through training, evaluation, coaching, and development plans; manage compensation within budgets and guidelines. Partner with HR, Benefits, and Accounting to review cross-departmental impacts, reconcile data sharing related to payroll, and implement changes for best-in-class operations. Set a collaborative tone among the payroll team, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to deliver high levels of customer service. Coordinate with corporate and regional management to align department goals and activities; provide reporting to enhance operations. Develop and maintain departmental metrics and KPIs that reflect process effectiveness and policy adherence. Oversee payroll activities related to account reconciliation, monthly variance analysis, accrual calculations, and journal entry review. Serve as the payroll systems leader, partnering with HRIS to ensure payroll accuracy, compliance, and scalability for growth, acquisitions, and organizational change. Develop payroll subject matter experts into future leaders through coaching and structured development plans; foster accountability and continuous learning. Anticipate risks and design payroll strategies to address growth, regulatory changes, and organizational transformation. Communicate payroll insights and risks to senior leadership with clear recommendations to support decision-making. Lead payroll change management for system enhancements, acquisitions, and reorganizations. Assume other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities
Manage the work of others, including planning, assigning, scheduling, and reviewing work to meet quality standards. Responsible for hiring, terminating, training, development, performance review, and corrective action for staff. Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience. 8 years of progressive payroll experience in a large, complex, multi-entity environment, including 5 years leading payroll teams. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation. Demonstrated leadership experience managing payroll operations across multiple countries, preferably including the U.S. and Canada. Preferred Requirements
Workday Payroll expertise strongly preferred. Candidates with ADP, SAP, or Oracle payroll leadership experience will be considered if they can quickly adapt to Workday. Advanced degree. Experience leading payroll through Workday implementations, upgrades, acquisitions/divestitures, or equivalent large ERP payroll systems. Proven record of developing and promoting payroll talent into senior-level roles. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Mathematical proficiency and ability to compute rates, ratios, percentages; capable of interpreting data and graphs. Proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to create and maintain documents, spreadsheets, databases to support business objectives. Strong cross-functional communication; ability to present, resolve, and address delicate situations; capable of motivating and persuading others. Analytical problem-solving; ability to handle varied and complex problems using established precedents and practices. Ability to influence decisions within a department or business unit; may contribute to policy recommendations.
