Senior Payroll Associate at Segal. This role leads the processing of US, Pension, and Canada payrolls and serves as the payroll subject matter expert. You will liaise with the payroll vendor and collaborate with HR and other internal departments to understand and execute payroll policies and procedures, ensure accurate tax, benefits, and wage garnishments, and follow internal control processes for payroll compliance. This is an opportunity to join Segal’s Financial Services unit as a Senior Payroll Associate (Senior Associate). You will work closely with the Payroll Manager and others in Financial Services to ensure employees are paid accurately and payroll-related reports are prepared promptly. The role emphasizes teamwork, commitment to work, and contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the unit and company. The position reports to the Payroll Manager and is based in the New York office with a flexible hybrid work schedule. Responsibilities
Lead and execute end-to-end payroll to ensure timely and accurate paychecks. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations. Oversee payroll tax filings and year-end reporting (e.g., W-2, 1099). Maintain and audit payroll systems (e.g., ADP) for accuracy and efficiency. Manage integrations between HRIS, timekeeping, and payroll platforms. Ensure data integrity of employee master files, tax forms, and direct deposit records. Prepare and reconcile payroll-related general ledger entries. Generate and analyze payroll reports for Finance, HR, and executive teams. Support internal and external audits with payroll documentation and analysis. Research and resolve complex payroll tax issues and discrepancies. Monitor regulatory changes and ensure payroll practices remain compliant. Coordinate with third-party vendors for garnishments, levies, and benefit deductions. Serve as a subject matter expert for payroll inquiries and escalations. Mentor junior payroll staff and assist in training initiatives. Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Benefits, and Accounting teams. Approximately 4 - 6 years or more of prior payroll administrator experience in a professional services or corporate environment. CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification preferred. High school diploma/GED and/or degree in accounting-related quantitative discipline preferred. Proficiency in MS Office applications and relevant financial software; intermediate proficiency in Excel and VLOOKUP. Experience with ADP Vantage, ADP Enterprise, ADP TeamPay, ADP Smart Compliance.
